Been down to London this weekend and saw this in Regent's Park on Saturday; an absolutely magnificent production that's every bit as much of a celebration of the book from which it's taken, as it is a piece of drama. No punches pulled regarding the subject matter or language used, and every bit as powerful and moving as the book was the first time I read it when I was a kid. It's going on a national tour now, and would definitely urge those of you that like this kind of thing to go and see it if you can - seem to think it may be on in Sheffield at some point.
I read this book while doing my O' levels and really enjoyed it. If the production does come to Sheffield or Leeds I think I may go and see it.
Homer Simpson: 'And I swore never to read again after 'To Kill a Mockingbird' gave me no useful advice on killing mockingbirds. It did teach me not to judge a man based on the color of his skin, but what good does that do me?' Brilliant book.
By sheer coincidence, I watched the film of this book on dvd on Saturday evening at home - the one starring Gregory Peck. Great film, probably an even better book, although looking back at when I did it for my O-level, I didn't understand some of the themes and concepts of the book as I hadn't experienced any real life racism back in the early 1970's. I still passed my O-level though!
