To many, this may seem petty - but, the club shop...

...is it just me, or is it just crap?

Barnsley F.C. has always been more than slightly off the pace when it comes to branding, but I can remember when you had to get your home shirt from that hotdog cabin at the back of the West Stand - couldn't try it on or owt - just got what you were given pretty much. The range at that time appeared to be home shirt, away shirt (maybe), hat or scarf.

I remember when I went up to St. James Park around that time with a friend of mine who was a geordie (not for a match, but we were in Newcastle so we went to the ground). I felt jealous at the time because they had an actual club shop that you could walk into and browse things (and more than just home/away shirts, hat or scarf). At that time Newcastle were in a bit of trouble and were lower than us in the league.

Now we have had our own 'proper' club shop for a good few years, (and most of us can remember the short lived period when there was a branch in town!) but the range of merchandise is just woeful. It's just cheap tat. There is very little you would actually want to buy. Pretty much home shirt/away shirt, hat or scarf. The DVDs are good. Outside of that, you're struggling. If you're a Barnsley fan, and you want to shop at the club and put that extra money through the coffers, you'd struggle to find owt you'd want to buy. They might as well just have a charity box.

I wonder if anyone will ever take a grip of the merchandise issue at the club. We could do so much better.

Always thought it was poor when the only thing we could put on was a cartoon dog!

A proper club badge would be a start, the coat of arms was an improvement to what we had before, but I think we need a proper club badge.

The badge is one of the problems...

...I really liked the White Rose myself, simple and effective. The club don't know which badge to use. There's a few items of merchandise that have both the coat of arms and the toby tyke badge on.

One of the other things that could be improved is the lack of a decent set of t-shirts that aren't replica shirts. I'm sure the club could make a handsome profit if it were to link up with a decent screen printers. The site below shows how easy and cheap it is. I've purchased one of these from footees but would have much rather have bought a similar version from the 'Reds Superstore' or whatever it's called these days.

    http://www.footees.co.uk/acatalog/Barnsley.html

I remember going to raid the club shop prior to the trip to Cardiff, in search of a red beanie hat, a decent red t-shirt but I ended up making one myself! Shocking really.

Also for those of us who can't just wander down t'well in a lunch break the online facility could do with more attention.

I remember it being a rare treat wandering into the club 'shop' behind the West stand. It was like an aladdin's cave but with no room to swing a cat!

on this board when he first took over.

I can't remember his exact wording. Something about his 'little trinkets'.

I was hoping foe January sales as on the main web site, for me all that's been reduced is the away shirt's hardly going to get people queing outside, would have been nice the dvd's in the sale £17.99 is a little too much, when you think you need part one and two for the goals from last season,£9.99 would be a more real price

I agree about the club shop,I just wanted a nice baseball cap at christmas they had two designs, one with a grinning dog the other looked like it was from chavsville!
A star shirt with CURRIE 10 on the back would be nice LOL

    To be fair...

The clubshop is *****. Nothing against the persons working in there, but the standard of merchandise is pure tat.

I only buy the home and away shirts, and sometimes a programme before/after a match. I'd love to blow a couple of hundred pound in there everytime I come down, but with the standard of quality in there, I just can't justify it.

Let's hope Shepherd sorts this problem out, because they're losing out on a lot of money.
