To Sheffield to work for the next few weeks. Planning to go by train from Barnsley - where's the best, cheapest and safest place to leave my car in town - (I live in Mapplewell)

Why not get the train from Darton? You can leave your car at the station.

Thanks threasdstopper. The 'fast' Barnsley-Sheffield train doesn't stop at Darton on its way to Barnsley from Leeds. So I need to park in town somewhere.

If you show your ticket at the ticket office they will give you a free parking ticket for the train station car park.

Thanks MK - ticket office staff said their car park often full by 7.20 a.m. and not the safest place to leave a car.

Wonder where those who travel to town to work leave their cars.

You're right, I should have said that it does get full by about half seven.

When I used to travel to uni on a morning, I used to park outside my mates house in the streets near Oakwell and walk it. Did it for 3 years and never had any trouble. 10 minute walk into town. As someone says above, the train station car park is often full by 7.15am.
