Unfortunately, it is... 13/08/2011: Southampton (H) - Category B Total attendance: 10,501 Home: 9,584 Away: 917 16/08/2011: Middlesbrough (H) - Category B Total attendance: 10,603 Home: 8,721 Away: 1,882 10/09/2011: Leicester City (H) - Category A Total attendance: 10,862 Home: 8,756 Away: 2,106 17/09/2011: Watford (H) - Category C Total attendance: 9,733 Home: 9,186 Away: 547 01/10/2011: Coventry City (H) - Category B Total attendance: 9,497 Home: 8,820 Away: 677 18/10/2011: Burnley (H) - Category B Total attendance: 9,692 Home: 8,766 Away: 926 29/10/2011: Bristol City (H) - Category A Total attendance: 8,900 Home: 8,658 Away: 242 Is there that much difference in attendances (especially just looking at the home fans) between the categories? I do however think that with the majority of the remaining matches being Cat A and with it going into the cold winter months and the economic/job situation getting worse, we could be seeing some very low attendances. Hopefully the club will see that getting a quick buck will alienate fans of the future.
I would understand a category system if we were in the Premier league.. with the likes of the the 2 Manc teams, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea... perhaps Spurs Newcastle ...but just which team really , Come on be honest here, which team in The Championship will really grab the fans running for tickets.... none ??? Thowt so. I wonder also if Uncle Don has been watching the news too...the Euro Crisis etc, people are getting very protective to their bank balances... Just a couple of thoughts Don, or are they just TOO hard to grasp.
But doesn't this show all the attendances are poor? In other words, people have been put off getting interested/going?
Re: I would understand a category system if we were in the Premier league.. Only the Leeds and West Ham games that will attract many more fans than usual. We've been in the Championship for enough time to render most games neither here nor there. Coventry, Bristol City, Ipswich, Derby etc. No real difference, no real attraction and I'm sure the feeling is mutual on their part. It's not just the attendance though, it's the absolute lack of any atmosphere or positivity or vibrancy. Oakwell is becoming a boring place to watch football.
