It took 6 or 7 years and 3 or 4 managers for BFC to become the festering pile of ***** it was last season you cannot expect Danny to change it round in 6 or 7 months, especially when he's had to shovel most of the **** out of the door before he could replace it
He as had to reconfigure the entire squad on a tight budget and had to wait to do it until money was freed up by high earners leaving.
Give the man some time it will come right but he needs patience from both fans and the board.
To those with an agenda because he went to Wednesday all those years ago unless you've every turned a job offer down which meant more money at a higher level when you worked in an industry that you can be sacked after 1 or 2 bad results shut the **** up and leave him to do is job.

I agree with you at present but let's see where we are after 10-12 games.
Because if we are down around or in the bottom 4 at that stage then I can guarantee you Wilson will be in the firing line.
The natives (and the Board) would be well and truly restless by then. That is a fact......

not a chance off course some of his signings will fail but i personally am pleased with what i've seen so far and as I said this morning, all we need is a goal, be it a beauty or a scrambled effort from anywhere, and we'll be off and running.

i think i'll wait until the season pans out a bit. while it's way too early to judge, i also think it's way too early to absolve danny wilson from any responsibility, and continue blaming the past

A big part of the problem is the management of the expectations of the fans.

The club needed to sell season tickets and so they allowed supporters to over-hype our chances of going back up. Personally, I do not know how you can bring in 10 new players, integrate them with the few remaining established professionals and a lot more fresh from junior football, miss most of preseason team building, and expect the whole to function like a well oiled machine. The problem is, although they must have known it, no-one from the club said any of that. They allowed the fans to believe the impossible was not only possible, but probable. Result, fans with dashed hopes looking around for a target, someone to blame. It was like this last season and it was like this the season before. The manager is not the problem. The fans are.

Patience! Danny will get it right, a when he does we will have a team to be proud of. A team not just for now. A team for the next 5 years, as the promising youngsters and the under 24s added by Danny grow together.

What a load of old rubbish. Are you saying Hill should have been kept on? Was it impossible to stay in the Championship? Is it wrong to hope to achieve more? Clearly it is in your eyes....

two distinct schools of thought here.

why shouldn't expectations be high? why shouldn't fans be thinking we should have a very good chance of top 6/promotion? how many League 1 teams are better equipped than us? how else can the Club expect to generate interest and excitement and get fans through the turnstiles? some would argue it's the constant drudgery of 'survival expectations' over the last decade, that's gradually eroded all good feeling and ultimately landed us back where we are. should we just continue managing these expectations, and sleepwalk our way into League 2 as well?

personally, i don't think ben, patrick, danny or anyone at the club is setting false expectations. i genuinely believe Barnsley Football Club SHOULD be competing for top 6 in League 1. and if we don't finish top 6, i would have to say the season had a been a failure. including danny wilson.

Look at the team we put out on Saturday. Berry played non league last year. Hourihane and Winnall in league 2. A left and right back that weren't playing week in, week out. Youngsters not used to first team football. How does this make us one of the better equipped teams to go straight back up?

I'll not be disappointed if we don't finish in the top six this season - this season is about becoming a team, learning to play decent football and finishing as a hhigh as they can with no pressure on them. Next season I'd be more disappointed to not be challenging for promotion.

It's all about opinions and I broadly agree with you.

It does take some time to build an excellent team. Going back to former managers, I thought it was right to get rid of Hill - primarily because he constantly talked us down. I didn't want rid of Flitcroft because I thought he deserved 2 or 3 years to build something. Imo we're no better off now than we would've been had we stuck with him.

I wasn't keen on getting Danny back. Not because he left for Wednesday (although it hurt at the time) but because, after sacking Flitcroft, I didn't think he was the best man for the job. But......he was appointed and we desperately need some stability imo so we have to stick with him and give him time.

I'm not going to blindly support everything he does though. I think he's taken us into the season underprepared and undercooked. It's the manager's job to ensure we're ready from the off and we clearly aren't. Results and performances so far illustrate that. We've lost to sides who are likely to be average at best. He brought on Mvoto up front last night - seemingly confirming what many have said - we lack height and strength up front. And defensively we still look leaky.

I don't think he's done a good job so far. His results are every bit as bad as recent managers and the latest of them are in a division that clearly is lower quality.

BUT - I think we have to give him time and support him. Just don't expect me to say I'm happy with things right now - I'm far from that.

Thats a fair point, but it wont stop us taking a few more hits in the finance stakes, to give the new lamb to the slaughter summat to play with.
