To those who stick up for Dickie Bird........

I remember when we got promoted to the prem and Dickie was mentioning our poor crowds in the 60s and the standard of players we had in that era. He went on to add that Barnsley cricket club used to get more to watch him play in the Yorkshire League at Shaw Lane. I remember the figures well, 2000 at Oakwell to watch the footy and more to watch cricket at Shaw Lane.</p>

Reality check......</p>

Barnsley have never averaged 2000 in any season in existance. Barnsley Cricket club has never had 2000 people watching at shaw lane. factafeckindidlymundo.</p>

Did Dickie think about the players of Barnsley FC that played during that era? Some of which were very good players, some not so. But they worked their fookin knackers off for this club.</p>

Without that era we would not be where we are now.</p>

It always amazes me that Dickie can find the time to harp on about BFC when we are doing well and he can get his name in lights. I'm not doubting he is a fan but he is an old man who will use any opportuniity to get whats best for Mr Bird.</p>

As ever everyone is entiled to their opinions etc but to belittle and berate one man for going to watch a football match where one of the teams happens to be his home town team is both wrong and smacks of some form of bitterness nay jealousy ?.

im quite sure 99% of us on this board have never had the chance to even chat to dickie let alone ask him about his love for the club. , given the fact he is from tarn and a minor celebrity in his own field of work he is bound to get media attention when ever our team is featured in a major match.

leave him alone ,let him get behind the reds as im sure you and i are both doing.

I am not doubting Dickies love of the Reds but his own ambitions when the reds are in the press.</p>

I have met Dickie on numerous occasions as well like.</p>

 

Think about it

The reason he gets quoted in the press talking about BFC at times like this is because people ask to interview him!

I can't stand the man

He was on our bus when we went to Wembley, only cos he didn't have to pay for it, our company offered him a place. I am still fecking mad about what he did, we were the last bus to leave Wembley for home that afternoon. It took the stupid get an hour and half after final whistle to get back to the coach and that was only cos we had a search party looking for him. </p>

On the way down to Wembley he gave the driver a right gob full about stopping at the services saying 'i have an appointment in the royal box at 12.30'. If he'd have been that bothered he wouldn't have flogged his 1st class train ticket for a free ride on our coach, penny pinching old get.</p>

 

He gets a free season ticket doesn't he?

Never liked the man but if he's payed for his ticket down no complaining.

Parkinson is different like. Never forget before PDiddy took over he got asked on the news what ambitions he had left "to buy Barnsley FC" to the reporter pouting up "they're in a pickle now, why don't you". obviously there was no reply.

But i suggest, go to the nears cricket ground,say 10 30 am ,stans at the wicket,for 5 mins put six stone oor pennies in your hane pass it to the other hand then walk to squae leg do the same till about 12 30 then again at 130 til 3 30 , and then 4 till 6
then come on here and have a go at Dicky Bird

I am NOT criticising Dickie Bird as a Barnsley FC fan or as a personality. I actually think Dickie Bird has done some good for this town in his cricketing capacity....NOT DOUBTED</p>

I merely stating that Dickie Bird has one agenda and that is Dickie Bird.</p>

I would personally would like the media attention to come from a former Barnsley FC player/employee rather than a man who has not got anything to do with the club. How about Norman Rimmington for instance or Mick McCarthey?</p>

My dislike for Mr Bird only started when we got to the Premier League. His career had ended and he used it as a promotional tool for himself.</p>

Maybe I am wrong but if you ask the majority of people who have actually had dealings with the gentleman in question you would get a similar overview.         </p>
