    I can't be worse than the Chestnut Tree

    Can it?

    How can they make a mess of serving a carvery?

    RE: I can't be worse than the Chestnut Tree

    Went to the one at Outlane, by Ainley Top for about 11:30 and there were already Hull FC fans in town. There's only five main courses, which is to make you pick the carvery.

    * Carvery.
    * Chicken Tikka with SALAD!!!!
    * Fish in sauce.
    * Seafood.
    * Butternut something or other.

    Gammon was nice, gravy nice and Yorkshire was nice. But the carrots, cauli etc tasted horrible. Wasn't worth eight quid and so had a Knickerblocker Glory for afters. Because of how busy it was, the waitress was clearing away plates before we were done. My niece had about half her chocolate fudgecake taken away and we had to get it brought back.

    We went to that one. Other than the veg being raw & the beef tasting nothing like beef, it wasn't too bad

    RE: The Dam....

    I defo avoid going on a Sunday - it just gets far too busy. In the week is best - before 7 if you can cos its only a fiver. I do agree that the carrots can sometimes be a bit raw!

    RE: The Dam....

    And no real ale....even though they used to have it. It wouldn't have been so bad apart from the notice behind the bar saying what a wide choice of beers they had (5 smooth flow bitters!) and another that said all their beers were served "refreshingly cold" That just tipped me over the edge!
    They really have no idea - complained to their head office and to be fair I did get a call from the area manager - although not to say that they'd change anything!

    RE: The Dam....

    That was my problem as well. The veg was disgusting. The gammon was beautiful, but I didn't have any beef. From the others who had it, it did look full of fat and grizzle. Nothing like it should be. Because they mass produce it, there's problems. Prefer getting food done on order. Plus it's always hot that way and not just warm.

    What's wrong with Chicken Tikka with Salad?

    If it is served as a sizzler (no sauce) it always comes with salad. Well, it comes with a kind of a mixture of autumn leaves and grass with some wafer thin slices of orange tomatoes.

    You can put some of that mint yoghurt on it to make it taste of something.

    Don't Think My One Has Real Ale Either

    All I could see on the pumps were ones like Strongbow, Carlsberg, Coors, Stella and a few others.

    I think ought to clarify, just in case

    They DID have the pump labelled up, but they didn't actually have any pedigree.....

    Recommendations....

    My favourite - achar lamb - lamb in a pickle sauce, tangy but not too hot.

    Tandoory special bhuna - bit of everything only mild to medium suitable for beginners.

    Keema koyla chatt - minced lamb but very hot, causes severe ring sting and has been known to make people vote concervative.

    Of the sizzlers - king prawn shaslick - pricy though.

    Cheese omelettes are nice allegedly.

    And for afters there is a nice penguin shaped ice cream on the kiddies menu.

    To avoid - north Indian chilli chicken. Causes brain damage, coma and a slow lingering death. Believe me the bloke on the next table had one last Monday and just the smell of it caused me to have 3 days off work. The guy was discretely removed when it became apparent that he was no longer breathing.

    Chicken Tikka isn't a curry. It should be dry spiced chicken with no sauce

    Chicken Tikka Massala is a curry.

    You know i'm a fan of Penguins lol. I'd have to pick something hot when I go. If you can't feel heartburn, there's no point to a curry :D :D :D Shouldn't be too difficult to sort a good three course out. Good choice of drinks?
