Final opportunity to take voluntary redundancy by 5pm today. After half my life working for one company I feel institutionalised and highly unemployable elsewhere. Is it really that bad out there? Am I really stuck here for another 20yrs and thenI die? Is that it?
Take it - sell up and move to Spain. By a cheaper gaff - leave a bit of money in the bank - get a job for the Spanish council watering grass.
I'm sure that, from the time the offer was made, you'll have had a look at the job market for what you do and what's out there. If you think there's a decent chance of finding another job within a few months then I'd say take it. I took voluntary redundancy in 2001, best move I made, decent payoff having worked for the company 12 years, found a better job within 2 months and that round of redundancies was just the start, they had further ones in the following 2 years where the pay out was nowhere near as good.
Jepp, get used to it! It's all you deserve after throwing away 2 years of your life on the defender instead of studying! You should have done what i did. Move to Norway and tell them that Barnsley 6th Form was a school for high achievers and Barnsley Technical College was the best of it's sort in Northern England!!! What you doing now? Still cleaning the Regent Street Toilets?
Hehe, you shouldve said summat, Im half asleep after 3 o clock, wouldnt recognise me own mam, its these pills. I cooked the snap yesterday for the boss, getting me card marked ready for new season...
As already pointed out earlier on, life is far too short. Take the money and run. You'll find another job if you really want to. Go get 'em, Floyd!
Yep, there are jobs out there but they tend to be in London. I currently work from home (60 miles north of London) so I would be giving up a lot of flexibility and gaining a 1-2hr commute. I would consider/prefer contracting but not sure if my skills are that transferable/in demand. Worst case scenario I take the money, but can't find a job, werun out of money and lose the house and me, the wife and 3 kids have to move into sheltered housing where one of the kids contracts hepatitis from a toilet seat . It's warm and cosy in this boring, predictable, steady, safe job. I really am institutionalised.
Not really its all in the selling. left a job after 8 years, on paper looked crazy, took some thinking time and was selective about what I took next. recruitment agents do all the work these days, you'll probably find your skills are more in demand than you think.
i got made redundant after 21 years at naylors, thought f#cking hell what next. Been in new job for 12 months now and a damn sight happier
Don't turn up to an interview wearing a Creative MP3 player, they're internationally recognised as the choice of losers. PM btw!
