REVIEW: Before todays game, I was thinking that anything bar a loss would have been a good result. I cam away from the game wondering how the hell we didnt get anything. We started the game brightly and seemed to match everything Reading tried to throw at us. They are a good Premiership outfit and I honestly thought that if they were to score, it would be through a set piece or on the break. How wrong was I? The sending off was the right decision. Kebe seemed to throw an arm at souza's face. Whether there was contact or not, the intent was there and it was the right decision. Muller made som good saves but to say we had about 70% of the possesion today, he was the busier of the 2 goalkeepers. Hassell was my mom today. He won everything and tried to join up in play with whoever was right wing at the time. Foster was solid again and didnt put a foot wrong against Kevin Doyle. Souza also had a good game but Dennis's mistake has cost us once again. Preston was bad but today Dennis, Put the ball in row Z mate. He had it under control at the corner flag with kevin doyle closing him down. All he had to do was put it out of play but Souza decided to be crafty by either playing it against doyle to go out for a corner or make a silly back pass to Muller. I couldnt see what he tried to do 100% as i sit in the ponty end. Van Homoet did ok but Kozluk is our out and ou LB and when asked to use his left foot, he struggled. Midfield did ok today. Campbell Ryce was his normal busy self using the whole pitch to try and create, Colace was consistant again but this game saw him more on the ball than trying to break up play. Anderson was creative again playing in some good passes while doing some good defending. Simon Whaley hasnt been a good aquisition. He doesnt do the easy thing. I thought he was a good crosser of the ball but recently he has been disappointing. Macken wasnt up to much today, he seemed a bit sluggish and when he had the ball, he either didnt release in quick enough or had a bad few touches too many. Cureton got himself in a few good positions but looks like he lacks some match practice and sharpness. We are yet to see him in a goalscoring position. Odejayi? Well, i really really want this guy to do well, but he lets us down too many times. Two great chances fell to him in the second half only for him to sky them both from about 12 yards out. Anyone else would have at least had them on target. I aint making him a scapegoat but we need a goalscorer and he isnt the answer. He puts himself about and is a handful for defences but 5 goals in over 50 games isnt good enough. To sum the game up, we dominated possesion and fell foul to a costly mistake that happens too often from dennis. He is a great CB but you cant do what he did today twice in 4 games. The thing with the reds is that we had a lot of possesion just outside the 18 yard box but try to walk it into the net insted of having a go. We saw againt Burnley that if you have a shot, you might get lucky. Today our final ball wasnt good enough and crossing was poor. We didnt seem to work their back four enough and Hahnemann only had one save from Macken. Our possesion warranted a goal. Kevin Dyle worked his socks off today and proved today that he isnt just a fine finisher. He didnt have to close Souza down but did and never stopped running for their team. Stephen Hunt was deadly with his set pieces but didnt really impress in the game itself. Today we dint lose the game or get beat, we gifted them it and im really gutted tonight. I really thought we could have had more especially with them going down to ten men. Round up on Tuesday for our visit to Swansea and maybe nick something down in South Wales.
midfield = No creativity, Anderson an colace lack in flar, imagination and vision. This leads to Cureton getting no good service/balls.
Quality, something we miss. For some reason he reminded me of james beattie abit but not as lazy and morngy
RE: i wasn't too impressed with doyle Biggest arsehole I've ever seen at Oakwell. Should have been booked about 4 times for mouthing/diving.
i did think we deserved something. Like i say we try to walk the ball into the net. If we would have had a fair few attempts on goal then i would have said we were unlucky, but today we were the ones to blame for our loss. Personal mistakes and lack of players willing to have a go have gost us at least a point. Our forwards and midfielders need to start having a go. So what if we miss. I know an opposing manager will be more fecked off if there team were letting us shoot from the edge of 18 yard box than instead of defending in their own 18 yard box successfully as the home team wanted to score a wonder 6 yard tap in after some 20-30 passes before the ball went in. Next game we all need to do the SSSSHHHHHHHOOOOOOTTTTT!!!!! Chant. maybe they will take notice, Odejayi is exempt from the shoot chant though
