BARNSLEY are looking at former Manchester United left winger Sean Evans and ex-Hull midfielder Anthony Hilton with a view to bolstering their squad ahead of the transfer deadline.

The pair played for the reserves in a 4-0 defeat at Hartlepool last night.

Manager Simon Davey was receiving an assessment of both today from coach Kelham O'Hanlon.

Evans, aged 20, was released from Old Trafford in the summer and had a spell on trial at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Hilton, aged 19, has been on the books at newly promoted Hull.

Both played all 90 minutes last night as Michael Mackay scored twice and rattled the woodwork for Hartlepool. Jonny Rowell made it 3-0 and hit the post before Alan Power add the final goal.

Reuben Lazarus, a 15-year-old who was making his Barnsley debut, shot against the upright for Barnsley.

Barnsley Res: Letheren, Reffin, Atkinson, Grundy, Mellor, Butterfield, Adam, Lazarus (Bennett 74 mins), Evans, Taylor (Warburton 81), Hilton.

n Barnsley expect to have Mounir El Haimour back in the team for Saturday's trip to Birmingham City in the Championship.

The Frenchman, who has played wide left in the first game of the season at QPR, has been sidelined with a calf injury.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has revealed he is still trying to sign Celtic defender Bobo Balde.

The 32-year-old, who has been out of favour at Parkhead for some time and whose contract expires next summer, has reportedly been told he can leave Celtic on a free transfer.

He appeared set for a move to Birmingham at the end of last month but the deal fell through.

McLeish is looking to revive it.

Barnsley striker Iain Hume came on as a sub for Canada as they drew their World Cup qualifier with Jamaica 1-1 last night in Toronto.

So when they said 2 premier league (released) trialists it was in the loosest sense possible.

Hilton... from Hull! Hull have played one game in the premier league and we're looking at one of their cast offs. Essentially Hilton is a cast off from a Championship club.

    Propaganda.

If we're having to look at released acadamy lads from the likes of hull, at this stage of the season, its a ******* disgrace. I'd rather stick with what we've got and bring our own lads through.

    What would I give for a Barnsley line-up to include;

Moses, Archdeacon, Bishop, Lazarus, - to achieve promotion, the Garden of Eaden.
