Overall I thought the Reds played well down at Oakwell this afternoon, impressed and looking forward to new season next week.

The reds started the game in a 4 5 1 / 4 3 3 when attacking, the line up was Davies in goal, a back four of Brown, Cranie, Nyatanga, Dudgeon, Hourihane, Abbott, Berry and Rose in midfield, Rose and Jennings playing wide and Winnall up front.

The first half Barnsley started well passing the ball freely the defence looked solid and linked up well with the midfield although Winnall looked a little isolated up front. Both Hourihane and Berry looked lively. The defence dealt with the long balls from Wednesday well and played the ball out from the back well sometimes playing cross field balls to the wings, Cranie and Nyatanga looked comfortable playing together and I think they will be Wilson's first choice for CB positions if Cranie stays.

Hourihane looks quality from set pieces and showed this towards the end of the first half when he played the ball in to the area from a free kick and Danny Rose finished superbly.

Overall the first half was pretty even and neither goalkeeper had that much to do.

The second half didn't start well for the Reds as Wednesday equalised after Davies spilled the ball from a shot and Wednesday capitalised.

The Reds continued to play some good football in the second half after they settled down. Brad Abbott looked comfortable on the ball and Jennings showed what he can do picking the ball but out wide then cutting inside and shooting.

Danny Rose continued to look lively and could have grabbed another goal as he had a couple more chances coming closest with a header.

Winnall got more in to the game in the second half holding the ball up and linking up with the midfield well, if they can provide him the ball in the right area I'm sure he will score goals. He did. Half the ball in the net today from a follow up after he struck a post but was ruled offside.

Danyy made changes on the second half bringing on youngsters RNL, Nana, Digby, McHale, Big Jean also came on and showed his power and goal threat in the air once again from corners.

RNL put in a couple of quality crosses from the left wing, Digby looked ok but could have done put himself about a bit more and Nana looked a threat - he is powerful and likes to run with the ball. Definitely going to be a star in the future!

Overall the team played well and I think all the new signings played well, the defence looked more solid but I think Turnbull will be no1 keeper come next week and Davies drop to the bench. The stand out player for me was Hourihane his energy and drive are something we haven't see in a midfielder at Oakwell for a long time. Luke Berry looks a good signing too, can get forward, works hard and always wants the ball.

Roll on Crawley next week, get behind Danny and the Reds!
