Nissan Micra. Not one of the new rounded ones, one of those that kinda looked like a small, upside down skip.

I've never owned one. I passed my driving test ten years ago and have never sat behind the wheel of a car since - probably something to do with living in cities.

Green Mini van with a hole in the floor at the back that let the exhaust fumes in!
9142 WF, 1963 vintage, cost £35. Ran it for nearly a year then upgraded to a red Mini saloon, 736 EUM, a year younger £60

A ten year old 1974 Triumph Toledo 1.3 in red, rust and fibreglass. Had it for nine months until the engine dropped out coming up past Penistone town hall. Ended its life as a grass tracker.

Mark 2 Ford Fiesta diesel. Bought as a van but converted to a car. Did over 200,000 miles in it, every single one of them flat out. If Ford galvanised their cars back then like they do now I'd still have it, but unfortunately rust got the better of it and no amount of welding would get it through its test. I'm convinced the engine would still be fine though.

It had so many good points, but the best was how well it would drive in the snow, due to front wheel drive, low revs and skinny tyres. I was following a Range Rover up Redbrook Hill in the snow. We manoeuvred our way around a few vehicles that had become stuck before the Range Rover's wheels began to spin and it came to a halt on the steepest part. I drove past him waving. The look on his face was a picture.
