Here's my report make your own mind up on if you think this kind of stuff is going to get us out of the relegation zone.

I arrived at 10.15 and enjoyed a bacon sarnie and a coffee from the Sandwich shop.

Between 10.30 and 11.00 the players came out in small groups.

Kay,Austin and it looked like Richards were attempting to put a ball into an empty net from a position close to where Kay scored his wonder goal.
The other players just knocked a ball about and chatted whilst they were waiting for the session to start.

AR came out at 10.50 and put two of the small goals side by side.He then started to mark out a playing area using small cones. Ah,Ah I thought it looks as if he is going to do some coaching.

At 11.04 the fitness coach Tom Little took the players on the warm up. The warm up included gentle running, Dynamic and static stretching, mobility and ball work. This was an excellent example of how a warm up should be conducted.

At 11.26 the players were divided into four groups of seven, and blue, green and yellow bibs were used to identify each group. One group were wearing black training tops.

Two of the groups engaged in a 7v7 + keepers game which RH was refereeing.

AR joined the two groups who were on the playing area he had marked out. What he's going to do here I thought. The answer was football tennis. The two goals AR had placed together were used as the net. AR then put a green bib on and joined in the game.

At 10-15 minute intervals RH blew a whistle and one team from each activity swapped places. AR just played. This continued until 12.15 when I deceided I had seen enough and left.

You can make your own mind up on the pros and cons of the session. Just don't ask me if I thought it was ****. Well you can put any four letter word you like in place of the asterisks.

I reckon they waited until you left and then did the proper training

seriously though, I would have liked them to be working at keeping the ball on the floor and working it round the feet of the defenders. Every team we meet seems to be a team of monsters, so we need to stop playing it up in the air.</p>

    RE: I keep saying it

Yes, something has to be done but first you have to get rid of the person who is suppsed to be coaching this team.

All coaching in any footballl club is directed by the manager. He says what is required and the coaches act on it.

he must be doing something right

because hes a good enough coach to be doing the training.

If he wasnt hed be turning up to training and criticising.

    I think it's that

Whilst andy ritchie is the manager of a championship football club, you are available to watch training through the day which would indicate that he is the better coach.

    RE: I think it's that

No doubt he is the better coach "cos he got us promoted" but I don't know how you can come on here and have a go at me just because AR isn't doing the job he is supposed to be doing.

If you knew anything about the coaching process you would be asking what is AR doing to get things right.

I report what I see. Do you think that AR should be joining in training or do you think his time would be better spent coaching?

couldnt give a toss about Ritchie misplacing a cone for the training warm up.

more bothered about our defence, its prolific.

Training cant improve the pace of our full backs. Training wont sign a goalscorer.

    Sounds good to me

The advantage of this type of training is that it works on the players concentration, ball control and awareness. It encourages players to react and cover their teamates in case they get out of position or miss the ball. By training the players to help each other out and judge when cover and when not to we shouldn't get the situation where players are isolated against an oposition attacker (like Paul Reid on saturday). That's obviously what they're working on and for 85 minutes on saturday defensively we were very good. We had players covering for others and reacting to situations correctly. Therefore, it must be working.

I think you should leave the trainign to people who know something about it. Football training is not just running about, passing, tackling, heading, shooting and five-a-side games any more you know.
