The girlfriend had set off to work this morning, halfway there, stuck in traffic she get's a phonecall from her boss asking where she is. When she told her, her boss said not to bother because work was quiet anyway. The problem is they have told her she wont get paid, and this is for something that isn't her fault. Is this legal? Or are the employers in the wrong? She wasted 2 and half hours in getting halfway there, and back home again, plus the petrol wasted.
Am I clutching at straws and should stop being a Scrooge? Neither of us are on a great wage, but losing a days pay is something she could do without.

All depends on her employment contract mate They can do what they want so long as the contract says they can....
Depends on her contract - May be worth saying that she'll take it as a holiday rather than not be paid. Next time, don't answer the phone to the boss
Did they tell her that she wasn't allowed to go in or simply offer her the option of not bothering continuing with her journey?
Hmm, good point. Not actually sure. I think it was a "don't bother coming in" rather than a definite not allowed to come in.
Some live closer than others. The ones who lived close by got in, the ones further afield either didn't attempt to make the journey in the 1st place or got there and went earlier due to a lack of kids at the pre-school where she works.
and from the ones who did not attend, did they get paid? Has she got a written contract of employment?
