From gills official site GET IN!!! Best news in 12 months Williams On Gills Grid Gillingham have today completed the signing of left back Tom Williams from League One outfit Barnsley. The 25-year-old, who has arrived at Priestfield on a free transfer, was a first team regular at Oakwell last season and the Yorkshire based club has been granted a sell on clause in the player's contract with Gillingham. Williams, who has put pen to paper on a two year deal at Priestfield, started out as a trainee at West Ham United, where he failed to make an appearance, before getting his first break in the game with Peterborough in March 2001. A loan spell lasting just two days followed at Birmingham City who saw enough potential in him to pay £350,000 for his services in March 2002. He spent most of his time out on loan whilst at St Andrews though, in two separate spells with QPR including the entire 2002-03 season. He returned to Peterborough on loan for the latter half of 2003-04 before joining Barnsley on a free transfer last summer. Williams, who becomes Gills boss Neale Cooper's second signing, will meet up with his new team-mates at tonight's pre-season friendly with Folkestone Invicta
Just seen that on BBC 606 Messageboard . I wonder if that frees up Ritchie to bring in another defender ?
Good riddence. Just hope he dosn't do the usual ex BFC player trick next time we see him and have an absolute stormer against us.
GET IN! A bit harsh perhaps indeed I had high hopes for Tom...hes quick, tall, can head the ball, not a bad tackler but never quite found a cross or a shot while at Oakwell. I wish him and Gillingham well but cannot say I am sorry to see him go. His performance at swillsbro was one of the worst I've seen by a barnsley player
I lost all respect for him as a player and man when I saw him spit at an oppostion player , just as the halftime whistle was blown , in a game last season ( Blackpool , I think ) .
RE: Taggart? i liked taggart ,but i think he will be to slow in this league at his age you cannot turn back the years .the way ritchie has moved in the transfer market he may look to bring in a younger defenderff
Paul McShane??? In view of Ritchie's recent visit to Old Trafford and the consequent denial regarding Rossi (who scored a blinder agin Posh last night), perhaps the interest might switch to Man U 19 year old defender Paul McShane, who is also wanted by Swindon. Was on loan at Walsall last season (did he play against us?) and might be worth a loan deal. Just guessing at who Ritchie might have in mind.
RE: Taggart? yes i aggree with that. but i wonder if he would get caught a lot in this league with the way players chase and close down very quickly
