Great idea but I think outside Oakwell would be a better location. Too many knobheads around the town centre who'd think it funny to hang a kebab around him or deface it altogether.

I'd suggest somewhere towards the Academy complex, as a nod to him being Barnsley born and bred etc.

I think the statue of Jason Shackell looked decent when we played Burnley recently.

In my humble opinion, the plaque at Oakwell is sufficient, though it was a long time coming. 100k is a lot to ask people to raise and will take years. If the artist is so keen why doesn't he do it for free? 20k will cover the bronze, casting and plinth. Or get Man U and their fans to pay for it. There are too many unfinished and abandoned heritage projects in the Barnsley area and you can't keep asking the same folk to cough up for every little cause.

A young persons sports scholarship in memory of TT would be are far more useful and a realistic goal.

A friendly with United at the start of the season would just about cover the cost,

A great idea but is there any chance of someone else making it? Graham Ibbeson's works are **** in my opinion. Case in point? The cheesy Dickie bird monstrosity

In my opinion Tommy Taylor isn't a big part of Barnsley FC's history. How many games did he play for us, was it 44? He's a Barnsley lad so he's part of the town's history and he's obviously a big part of Man Utd's history, but he's not really a Barnsley FC legend. He's from Barnsley, but he's a Man Utd legend. It would seem very odd to me to have the statue of a Man Utd legend outside our ground. Brilliant player that he was, he doesn't really belong to us. He belongs to Man Utd, to the town of Barnsley, but not to Barnsley FC.

I like the Bird one - think it captures his characetr but I agree with Jay - fantastic footballer but he is more associated with United. We must have our own legends - what happened to the Preedy one?

    Should be preedy IMO .
Its what he set out to do to give Barnsley a proffesional club
He should be on corner of west and south stands welcoming the public of Barnsley to oak well. Its what he would have wanted.

I think the Dickie Bird one is good......Tommy Taylor ,Barnsley lad but a Man Utd legend.

So this begs the question...Who are the Real Barnsley Legends?

    Tuffnell, McCormick, Glavin, Redfearn?..........

so do you also want a Butterfield statue and a Stones statue

Like Jay has said Taylor hardly played for us.. Also just how many who currently attend Oakwell/follow Barnsley actually remember him or have actually seen him play for Barnsley. Has Man Utd put up his statue or for that matter just how many have they erected from the tragedy of munich.Sorry to sound harsh but this to me is a total non starter.
But one guy who actually made the most important achievement in Barnsleys history since our 1912 FA cup win is Mr Danny Wilson...how many have asked for a statue of that guy, NONE thats how many...yet scores have harangued the man because he accepted the managers post at Hillsboro. There are many also on here who despise Man Utd , ask them if they want your suggested statue.

Let's just have a Judas statue as all the good ones sold us out!

As I've just said in your other thread about this, this statue idea wasn't mine. I have merely posted a link about it.

I don't particularly want any statues.

I'd rather just watch the football, thanks.

only one true legend -think club could do something while he's still around!! NORMAN RIMMINGTON STAND or a statue would be good as well! He's seen it all - been there through the good and the bad - always stuck around and done virtually every job at the club!

    Bit late in the day?

If it was ever going to be done, it should have been done decades ago. There can't be many left who knew him or even saw him play.

If it happens, it should be at Oakwell.
