Well now TQO, this is interesting! From last night when I began studying today's form I was of the opinion that Hugo Palmer's debutant Star Archer was the one to be with - especially given how Hugo's two year olds have been going of late. But 10/11 looked way off of being value for his first run. There was no doubt that Tommy Taylor's debut run at Haydock was the best form on offer from those to have run, but the cognoscenti said "form achieved on heavy ground at Haydock - conditions different tonight". As today wore on I kept an eye on the race, and I began thinking that Tommy Taylor was by Mizzen Mast, who acted on firm. So at 10/3 he looked the value bet in the race. And so it proved for Mr (Blueline) Tingay and his missus, Mrs Bailey. £155,000 well spent? There must be some money in them there taxis! Some good action at Sandown yesterday. And I wonder if you saw Jamie Spencer attempt to put Ryan Moore over the rails at Ascot this afternoon? Jamie was very luck to get only a three day suspension for that one. Reminded me of Alan Little!
Mr Spencer involved in two stewards' enquiries at Sandown on Wednesday evening. Not sure if anyone can get disqualified anymore but can't complain as I backed the first one. He completed the hat trick with a typical Spencer effort producing his horse right on the line. He is good when it all comes off. You mention Hugo Palmer - he had a very impressive winner on Wednesday evening with Best of Days. Looked very good. Yesterday Andrew Balding's Night Law was also impressive. Watched it in the pre-parade ring and it was manic when being saddled. Turned over on its back, kicked one of the four people trying to put the saddle on but once it was saddled it was ok. Very tough in the finish.
