York last came to Oakwell in a competitive fixture. We won 3-0 which put us top of the old 4th division. Apologies if already posted, just thought that was a nice little stat.
Remember that game - it was the one in which Alan Clarke scored his first goal for us at the old Spion Kop end. I remember Clarkey rising for the cross and seeming to hang in the air before planting his header firmly downwards past the York keeper. It was a realisation that we had someone with a bit of class in our midst, and the start of some special years in the late 70's/early 80's.
I'd guess at 8/9 thou - we'd won the first 5 games that season - lost at home to Torquay in front of 12,000 midweek. Which was our highest attendance for ages. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was there as well..Am sure Ally Millar scored one of his specials from the edge of the box, at the kop end
