On the 63rd minute should we stand and clap for Phil Hughes? I know it would have made more sense doing it on Saturday but it would make us look good 63 been his last score
No, we have to draw a line somewhere, or else we will be gonna Oakwell and clapping for 90 mins each match, then we would miss all the moans, groans and the usual witty retorts.
I always thought silences/applauses were to honour the deceased and perhaps give comfort to their family. Certainly not to make ourselves look good.
My only question is where you draw the line. I get cricket and other Australian national sides - just not sure how an English Division 3 football team is relevant really.
No. Terrible incident, awful accident, but they happen all the time. The fact this 'stand up in the 12th minute' stuff is happening all over completely lessens the impact of 'em IMHO.
It's a no from me and if one of our players died due to an incident in the match i'd not expect random Aussies to applaude it at the SCG.
If Ryan Williams is playing and he brings out a Bat to pay his respects then i will applaud, that's as far as it should go in my opinion.
I'd never heard of the bloke before it happened. He has no connection with Barnsley, no connection with football & isn't English so it seems daft to me. Obviously it's terrible what's happened & condolences to his friends, family & cricket fans but his death has no relevance on a league 1 football game in England
