Shackell not changed one bit.. The amount of time he leaves his defending duties to join in with the attack, especially for a center back is unbelievable. For example he went on a run up the east stand touch line in the first have, like we was a winger. He lost into touch but on another day we could have gone back up the other end and scored. I dont know how anyone can form a decent defensive partnership with him, when hes never there. I wasn't bothered when he left and think were much better off without him
I commented on his attacking ambition last night at the game but I dont recall it being so bad last season; I just got the impression he was determined to score against us. He seemed to be on a mission.
This season's defence is 4 goals better off than it was last year and Steele's having his best season year (apart from last night). Shackell would still walk into our defence and l'm sure Hill would gladly have him.
Exactly. Our defence usually has Steele, Hassell, Foster and Jay Mac from last season still, so it's no wonder we are as bad this season defensively as we were last season. Can definately see an overhaul in the summer at the back.
Apart from the 3 month without Foster where we had McShane. And the fact that JayMac played just over 10 games - we had Hill, and Trips was a regular. So basically, you are blaming Steele and absolving Shackell....
I'm saying we have quite a few defensive players who have been part of our defense now a fair few seasons, yet the goal difference still isn't improving. I'd say our defense have some of the highest earners at the club. They have played together many times now over many seasons and we still end up with a minus goal difference and lack of clean sheets. In the summer maybe sentiment needs to go out of the window and we need to overhaul it.
