very poor, thank god the Gills are a poor side, they were ripe for an absolute spanking, but true to form Ritchie sent out a negative team in the second half, sitting deep and inviting the opposition on, a better team would have got something from this game. Bright spots for me was seeing Hayes put in a determined effort in a position he's not used to, Austin and Tonge were outstanding as was Reid, and why won't Ritchie play Nardiello from the start, he looks like he will score goals, lazy, moody yes but give him a sniff at goal and he springs to life.
RE: How's Can you honestly say the second half was positive, we played with an away side mentality, sit deep and catch them on the break, this is not new, we've been doing it at home most of the season and it's going to cost us at some point, look, we're sitting in a play off spot a few points off automatic, but a team like Gillingham should have been caned big style, it sends out a positive message to our promotion rivals.
After four games without a win 3 points are all that matter. Considering we were without Carbon, Hassell, Kay, Williams, Devaney and Howard in the second half I thought we did reasonably well.
RE: How's As I have put in my thread below 3-4-3 is a system that you need the correct players to play it otherwise failure is due to happen.
You fit the players round the system not the system round the players. That might sound like gobbledigook but its not meant to anyway I tended to eat my pie through a straw due to it being gravy........now that is wrong, it was supposed to be steak!

RE: 5 in midfield ??????? I agree and my 3-4-3 formation was inclusive of the attacking midfielder (being one of the front 3) who was McPhail without success. I don't know whether you noticed McPhail trying to get up with the front 2 in the 2nd half?
It could be looked as a 5 so I know we are on the same lines anyway.

When Barnsley got promoted to the Prem was it 3-5-2 or 3-4-3? The answer is it depends on if your attacking or defending. Martin Bullock became more of an attacking midfielder (past the centre forwards most times) than a general midfielder.

RE: When Barnsley got promoted to the Prem was it 3-5-2 or 3-4-3? I thought we were talking about tonight? This was definitely a defensive tactic not an attacking one.
It wasn't either - it was down to us having not enough "experienced" defenders to play 4 at the bac I hope you don't think I'm arguing with you mate cos it isn't meant. I feel sorry for young Laight who was the ideal candidate to fill in and carry on as we did in the 1st half.
