If there are constitutional issues about the vote it asks the question what's the point of the House of Lords. Want to make cuts then get rid! Oh and George you weren't elected on this change to the welfare state as Mr Cameron categorically stated you wouldn't touch tax credits
Vote for the right thing whatever the procedural issues. If Mr. Cameron doesn't honour his promises I see no reason why the Lords should feel obliged to be bound by protocol....shameful business.
Ironic isn't it, that it was Conservative rebels who defeated Nick Clegg's proposals for HoL reform? That would have brought a mainly elected second chamber, if I recall correctly.
This is from Parliament.UK website. "Role and work of the House of Lords What does the House of Lords do? The House of Lords is the second chamber of the UK Parliament. It works with the House of Commons to: make laws check and challenge the actions of the government, and provide a forum of independent expertise" It seems to me that is what they have done, so why are the Cons kicking off?
The tax credit situation does need reviewing but it needs doing properly rather than a rushed half baked one size fits all solution thays been put forward
