Bleedin' 'ell! I can't believe I'm older than thee!! I had my 38th last October. I must have had an easier paper round.

Ice or water is fine in blended single malts like those on sale in off-licences. If you get a single cask malt, then try it neat first, then work out if you need to thin the flavour with water/ice.
RE: Well, its a low quality malt. We finished off the Christmas Glenlivet last week......also finished off 2 other bottles of whisky that were close to empty so they'll be thinking we're right alco's at the next bottle collection!
RE: Ice or water is fine in blended single malts like those on sale in off-licences. You should NEVER put ice into single malt whisky, it ruins the flavours - only some water.
RE: Ice or water is fine in blended single malts like those on sale in off-licences. They're blended to be ice tolerant! Many livers have been sacrificed in researching this. The flavours are thinned by water or ice but as long as you don't drink the liquid while it is so cold that your tastebuds are numbed the flavours are not affected. In other words let the ice melt into the whisky for a while. Ice affects the nose because the evaporation process is inhibited which, in theory, should keep the aromatics in the liquid for longer.
A drop or two of water enhances the flavour for me Ice I can take or leave but never in better malts.</p>
