I hope it was from natural causes as reported, that family has suffered enough without having to go through the courts again.

I agree Reevy, if you want to end your life then you should be allowed, would save on suicides and the people who have traumas dealing with the aftermath of one.

Its strange to be glad that someone has died but in this case I am pleased he has died so quickly - its clear he has been in a living hell for the last few years with no hope of ever escaping. Unfortunate he had to starve himself to death but his suffering has finally ended. Tragic case and I expect even his poor family are more at peace now

The religious amongst us may have a few problems with it, though.

    Why should I ?

I think you will find that your vision of Religion is a little outdated. I am not saying there are not still some old fashioned people in any religion, plus some really hard liners, but to lump everyone together as you have done quite a few times over the last few weeks is rather silly and shows that you are out of touch .
This is not an attack on yourself, or a defence for the more vocal minority in all religions.

I'm afraid that there are times when religion can kiss my ar5e and this is one of them. To be honest I don't think religion can try and cease the moral high ground on most subjects; not anymore.

In regards to why you should; A lot of Christians, not necessarily yourself, believe that as life is supposedly a a gift from god and that all aspects of life, such as birth and death etc, were processes designed by god, no human being has the authority to take that life.

I think it's your book that's out of date.

I can assure you I'm not out of touch, I'm fascinated by it, and the amount of time I spend reading about religion and science is unhealthy. You only have to look across the ponds at the nutty republicans (and religious leaders here in the UK) and their stance on abortion and the theory of evolution to see this isn't a small or 'outdated' problem.

I'm not saying that all religious people are bad, but based on what each relevant holy book says - not based on what 'good' religious people say - all religions are bad.

No-one has ever killed in the name of there not being God but it's not hard to find examples of killings IN the name of god. The old testament God is one of the most vile characters in the history of literature.

I'm very interested in what you believe though. Do you accept that Earth is 4.5 Billion years old or believe that it's only 6000 years old? Do you accept the theory of evolution? What's your opinion on abortion? Do you think that religion still has a place within the state?

By all means tell me to **** off but remember you're almost as Atheist as I am. I just go the one god further.

They said that he could only communicate by blinking when somebody pointed to letters. Anyone know why they couldn't give him a machine like Stephen Hawking's so that he could speak that way?

I cannot see how Evolution can be denied, abortion is something that is between a woman and her conscience (spelling?) it is not something that should be taken lightly and I am glad that I will never have to take that decision. I think it is just a big a crime to kill in the name of God than any other way. I think you are wrong about people never having killed in the name of there being no God. Having strong religious beliefs can be a great comfort to many people , it is the zealots that cause the problems ! I have no problems with any religion, I do have problems with the extreme interpretations by some very wacky people in all religions.
There are as many extreme Christians in the USA as there are extreme Muslims in this Country, they are people that I find offensive and vile.
There are good and bad in all walks of life and I believe that everyone is entitled to have the CHOICE in what they believe in, without fear of persecution and hatred. I dont mean they should be free to stir up hatred and fear , but they should be able to choose what they believe in.
I know there is a greater being than me , but I dont think I should have to prove it to anyone, just like I dont want others screaming and shouting that I am deluded or stupid and that happens all too often.
