Someone willing to spend plenty of money you mean. Be interesting to see how his backing stacks up in the mini greed league though.
absolutely correct there matey Rotherham had a spirit about them. If we get that same spirit next term then I will be happy. For a few seasons now I have suspected that our players are just here for a pay-day... and nothing more.
Had a fantastic day at Wembley. Good match lots of pace and power and verve though sometimes lacking in skill. Some cracking goals and a great atmosphere. Rotherham fans showed a lot of patience and faith really getting behind their team when they were 2 nowt down. A lesson to the sceptics at Oakwell. Given the ***** they've had to put up with over the last 10 years who can resent their day in the sun Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rotherham and Donny are showing the way forward. OK, the Pikeys may have taken a step back, but I think their trajectory is upwards. We, on the other hand are stagnating as a club. Tired and defective stadium, unfit for purpose squad (and about to be downgraded further), and an owner who has tired of the adventure. Apart from that it's going well.
Absolutely nowt wrong with Oakwell that's some cosmetic work wouldn't sort out. You wonder how some people live. "Front room needs painting" "better buy a new house then" Only been to NY stadium twice but underwhelmed to be honest. Lacks any sort of atmosphere or character. A small step up from the Ikea flat pack stadiums but only a small step.
Cramped, birdshit everywhere, away end bigger (and with more atmosphere) than the home end, substantial areas not under cover, catering appalling, nacked scoreboard, non-(or sporadically) working CCTV's, pitch that is not of the traditional quality we had (probably cause they insist on pouring water on it before kick-off, even when it's been raining!), deafening PA system with naff cheerleader ("Super Reds!!!" FFS!). Need I go on? Still, it will be alreight for the Ryman League (or whatever).
Spending plenty of money their record transfer is 160 grand they,ve got value for money we never get that.
We need a new stadium cos you don't like the naff cheerleader FFS. And I hate to be the one to break it to you but birds **** on new stadiums too...Catering. We have a contract with a company whatever Stadium we are in that I'm pretty sure won't be renewed. As for cramped have you sat at some of the new grounds? I was more cramped today at Wembley than I ever am at Oakwell. Cost of sorting all that out less than half a million quid. Cost of a new stadium 10 million plus. Do the maths.
The wider point is about the overall culture of our club at present - despite his best efforts, Ban is hamstrung by our financial position. As regards the finances and the ground, it rather depends on the price you get for the current land and whether that will be premium housebuilding territory compared to an out of town (Dod'eth?) site. Blue sky thinking (sorry!) and a new culture required.
And while we're on, I would think it's very unlikely that any such restrictive covenant remains enforceable. Ownership of most of the surrounding land is not in the same hands, and I think the council would be glad to get shut of their stake, given the current financial climate.
I do wonder whether our future would be brighter if we left Oakwell. I love the place, but Doncaster and Rotherham have seen substantial increases in attendance since their new-build stadia, and - I haven't checked but would imagine - are playing at a higher level than their historical average. For that reason, I wonder if it would be worth moving. Just to make it look as though we have some bloody ambition.
In the next 5 to 10 years I can see at least 6 teams currently in the Championship going out of business as well as potentially QPR and Leicester. And the financing of football will have to change. I want us to be in the strongest position to take advantage of that. I see the future as being concentrating on developing our own players more effectively, becoming less reliant on loan players, living within our means, reintegrating our club into our community. I think there will be a necessary period in Division 3 to achieve these long term ends.. Would I rather have a decent season in Division3 (by that I mean top half not promotion) than perpetual struggle in Division 2. The answers yes. Do I see things improving for well run clubs like us in the medium term of course I do.
