but I can honestly state without fear of contradiction that Jacob Butterfield is not the answer in midfield. We need someone better. Just that.
Two weeks ago Id have took that back but he's been decidedly average in the last few games. He's having a decent season because he's got players around him running their blood to water. He's clearly got a big opinion of his own abilities an all, arrogance even, without having earnt the right yet. Im incredulous at how some people on here seem to think he's a world beater just because a rumour or two has his name linked with other clubs. Its more embarrassing to have his name mentioned in the same sentence as Hignett. Not fit to lace his boots. It might make our season if he leaves. Have that.
Re: Two weeks ago Id have took that back Mental. First central midfielder since Howard to have a realistic chance of getting to double figures this year. That's nowt to do wi Perkins running abart next to him. First laiker I've seen for us that looks like he's got all the time in the World on the ball. That's nowt to do wi Drinkwater working hard. He's not the finished article by any means, and if you expect him to be consistent you're always gonna be disappopinted considering he's 21. Makes me laugh, we did this with Hammill last year - he dint score a wonder goal for 8 games and he was w@nk. And he went and our season went to pot.
Re: Two weeks ago Id have took that back i'm with S.M., he is a good player but not outstanding and if we got million plus for him....ta ta. Sir Keefy could then invest in some lower league rubbish and make em brill like he has with perkins / done etc. hope this helps
Reality check Butterfield has had a good half season. He's scored 5 goals in 21 games. Thats it. Howard and Hammil scored more goals, more assists, more important and consistent, more influential, better in pretty much every aspect and whilst we both hope Butterfield will improve and add some consistency to his game cos lets be reight, he's been average recently, he'll probably leave in January because he seems to think he's destined for better things. Im happy to admit he's done well so far this season, but forgive me for not drooling over 5 goals and the fact that he's come through the Academy (albeit via Man United).
Re: Heresy Hammill 27 apps 8 goals 4 assists (season he was sold) Butters 21 apps 5 goals 6 assists Howard 47 apps 14 goals 8 assists (07/08 season)
Player of the Half Season Award Luke Steele. David Perkins? Craig Davies maybe. Butterfield - not even in top 5.
Re: Player of the Half Season Award agreed....wowser.... someone who talks a bit of sense on here......not many of us i must stress toot toot
Re: Player of the Half Season Award David Perkins - and I called him at the start of the season. Proved me massively wrong. Of all the lads to step up from the lower leagues he's adapted better and shown at times an unbeliveable desire to win - or at least not to let the opposition get the better of us. His work rate is phenomenal, and he's started to ally that with some smart passing and movement.
With SM on this one myself. I think his ego is getting too big for his own boots. Lad seems to think he's a superstar when he's only just broken into playing first team football. His poor corners and inconsistent passing on Tuesday was enough to conclude he really isn't that indispensable to the team.
Re: Best player? there is no way buttercup is the best player....... steele for one. billy big ****** is getting too big for his own lunchbreak. time for a performance buttercup if you read this saddo forum with all of its saddo users....excluding me obviously! toot toot
Re: Reality check Massive difference. Hammill carried us at the start of last year, everything went through him. It looked like it might be the same early this season but it's not looking to be that way with Davies, Vaz Te etc scoring. Noones claiming him to be a world beater. But he's our most creative player. When was the last time we had someone get international recognition? It's the Barnsley way, we prefer kids that graft compared to those that can really play.
