Shows how poor we've been at reaching the PL when we've had more chances than anyone to get out from the second tier.
Agree although it could also show how well we've done in not dropping down for too long given the relative resources at the club's disposal.
It's definitely a double edged sword. It could be viewed as a testimony to achievement or failure. Given our size I think the latter. We've always punched slightly above our weight I think though things are now much more skewed against us.
I have always regarded this statistic as a badge of honour. When I started following the club regularly in the mid-1960s we were at the bottom end of what was then Division 4. It took us 17 years to get back to what Johnnie Steele regarded as our rightful place, Division 2. I would go to Oakwell regularly with mates from school (Wath). Several of them including Steve S are now no longer with us. Our highlights were the odd County Cup win against the Blades or the Millers (Wednesday were too up themselves to enter that competition in those days). We have punched above our weight for most of our existence but the amount of money thrown at the game has made our task that much harder in the 21st century.
