https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/68372224.amp https://torquayunited.com/message-to-supporters/ Not just clubs near us that struggle. 11th in National League South is some drop from being in the Football League.
It seems like any momentous change brings financial challenges, no matter which direction you're moving in. Plenty of thriving non-league clubs have gone tits-up after reaching the EFL. Scarborough, Maidstone, Barnet, Rushden & Diamonds, Kidderminster all either had big problems with the transition or went completely bankrupt for various reasons.
Some clubs shouldn't be allowed into the league. Re-election is what's needed. I'm not against promotion and relegation but some teams simply haven't got the fan base to sustain professional football.
I seem to recall most football fanzines sounding off about how bad Sky waa going to be for football in the long run. Stating that a select few would ger wealthier and that most of the other clubs would struggle financially.
You mean like how Arsenal got promoted to the 1st Division instead of us in 1919?Football should be exclusively decided on the field of play. We had a reelection system for many years, and it was completely opaque and probably corrupt.
There was Lucy who had sky high dreams for Rushden and Diamonds. They ended up going out to sea on a newspaper taxi.
Very true, some teams - Gateshead, Workington, Barrow, seem to have been voted out simply because they were a long way for other teams to travel.
biggest load of rubbish I’ve ever read. Promotion on footballing ability not bank balance and who you know.
Even if they can't sustain it and go bust? What they paying players with milk buttons? I love these ideologists. If somebody said the same thing about Barnsley same folk would be up in arms saying easy to spend someone else's money. I'll take your comment with pinch of salt it deserves.
still a load of bobbins. Promotion on footballing ability otherwise football is ranked by the richest clubs. What’s the point of even playing in your example? there’s none.
Never mind, I hear Helen Chamberlain is going to give them a tenner each month to keep them in business.
Disagree They are aware of the situation. In getting grounds up to standards. And still get to the next season cut off point. (Before fixtures are out I assume.) All clubs are aware of the criteria. And it happens at most levels down the pyramid. Can't go "oops we never expected to get promoted" Luton had to get work done in the close season/season. To be able to play at home. Had to wait till 1st sept. It was more to do with media facilities rather than spectator ones, or I think they would have suffered a bigger punishment. Eg stayed in the championship.
