I've come across a fairly simple tutorial to turn a raspberry pi into a Tor router, apparently it's better than a VPN for Internet anonymity, as it 'hops' several times rather than the once from a VPN.
Has anyone else ever used one and what do you think?
    Thanks

If you want anonymity then Tor is the way to go. Though I can't say there's any real need for the common person to need that much protection. Unless you're leaking government cables it seems like overkill.

It just looks very easy to do and is also free where a decent VPN has to be paid for.
Also could be something to send to my brother in China to circumvent their ridiculous Internet censorship

If you live in China then yes, Tor makes sense. If you don't then what's the point? Streaming/file sharing over Tor is incredibly selfish and not exactly brisk. If you want privacy while using public wifi on your phone there are free packages that will do the job.

Most people don't need to draw their curtains on an evening but they still do.

If you're planning a terrorist attack, a government coup or an international drug cartel, it's probably worth it

Nowt sinister, just liked the idea of going anonymous, read a little more into it and it would probably slow down my Internet too much anyway.
    Thanks for the answers
