Desperate to lose tonight at the expense of potential champions league football… just to stop Arsenal winning the league. Would we be happy to miss out on a play off spot if it meant Wednesday/Leeds/SheffU got relegated?
With the form Palace are in you would surely make Spurs favourites for 4th if they won tonight as well. If Spurs had nothing to play for I would understand them been comfortable losing but not with champions league at stake
I cannot believe that. And knowing Spurs they'd lose that match and the gunners would win their final match and Man City lose theirs so Arsenal still win the league!
I think Spurs are like this because it’s so long since they won anything. I have no issue with Spurs at all but there seems to be a particular bitterness there because Arsenal have been significantly more successful over the last 30 years at least. Not sure Arsenal are as bothered about them as they’ve not been a threat.
I want a draw tonight to set up a last day where the top 2 are on same points so both have to go into their games and go for it, particularly City who'd have to overturn a bit of GD, which would also push Arsenal to look for goals. Also has the by-product of giving Villa 4th spot.
What they say and what they really hope for are miles apart. Only a numpty would give up a Champions league place for a Europa league place. One thing I learned as a rep was some will lie through their teeth. And tell you what you want to hear. And bear in mind I never asked how they voted for example. They would volunteer it amongst colleagues. Eg "I voted against the deal. It's a s41t offer" x100 Then the result was only 10 voted against. I'd rather have a colleague tell the truth whether I liked it or not. Than liars.
I just found it really comical that so called Tottenham fans were phoning up a national radio show sand saying they hoped that they missed a penalty in the last minute so ensure Man City won, or that they didn’t mind losing 4, 5 or 6 nil if it meant Arsenal wouldn’t win the league. I can’t imagine ever having that mindset.
They certainly are mate. Seems to have grown more this rivalry recently too, because you until last season spurs had finished above arsenal something like 7 seasons in a row, last day of season spurs beat arsenal to pip them to 4th couple of years ago. There's always been an hatred there but seems more heated now. To suggest id want my team to lose due to rivals is ludicrous though, and I've never seen a genuine fan say it. Wouldnt be at all surprised if its arsenal fans phoning in disguise lol
Wanting your own team to lose feels unnatural and when it is only in the aid of pulling a rival down, it feels a little tinpot and sad. However...... I can actually see a little logic in the Spurs fan's position on this. If they are reasonably happy with the Europa League and some of their fans seem to think they're better suited to that competition at this stage, then missing out on the Champs League may be seen as more attractive then helping Arsenal win the league. I think Villa will get a result at Palace, so a Spurs win wouldn't guarantee anything anyway. Spurs have had 20 years of Arsenal fans singing how they won the league at White Hart Lane. It makes sense to me that Spurs fans would absolutely loath having Arsenal lording it for the next however long that they effectively handed them the league. If Spurs definitely get Champs League for winning then I can see why they should want to win. But the likely hood is they won't get champions league, so helping deny Arsenal winning the title would seem a good option. There's already loads of posts about saying how it would be ultimate 'Spurs' to help hand Arsenal the trophy, the jokes are already being made, so of course some Spurs fans would consider losing as the lesser of two evils. For me, City will win regardless. They are a machine.
Spurs are currently 6 points above Newcastle and Chelsea with the same or worse GD and in worse form than we were in April. If they lose and the other two win tonight, they're only 3 points above them with 1 game left. They could miss out on European football altogether. Although you'd expect Spurs to pick something up at Bramall Lane - and I don't mean the clap
If I was a Spurs fan I’d not be upset if they lost tonight either. I think it’s a different situation you put towards for us, id much prefer us to get play offs. However, if I were in their situation and us winning meant Wednesday winning league, and we’ve had numerous seasons in the champions league, I’d be going to the game with a Man City top on tonight. Imagine the abuse Tottenham fans will get for the rest of their lives if they aided Arsenal winning the league. Plus, you’d know Tottenham would do a Tottenham if they won tonight and lose at Sheff Utd on Sunday.
