Traffic almost back to normal levels I think most firms have got to grips with making the necessary adjustments and called folk back to work. Noticed it more this morning, drove up to our furthest quarry and it took an extra 10 minutes because of the additional traffic, once shops open back up next month it’ll feel like normal again. Big question now as the country starts back is will there be a second spike just as the cold and flu season kicks in, or will social distancing, frequent hand-washing and more working from home reduce both the numbers affected by COVID-19 and reduce the numbers who catch colds and flu thus giving us a much needed win, win ?
Same here in Harrogate which is a terrible black spot for traffic congestion. Both incoming and outgoing traffic on the Wetherby and Skipton Roads is now getting back to normal levels. Looking out of my window there is a hundred yards or so gap caused by the outer reaches of The Stray but the vehicles are crawling along the A59 again, in both directions, causing the usual noise and pollution problems. The heavily-leafed trees help on that score but then the downside for me is that I suffer from tree pollen during the early months of every year. I've hardly stopped sneezing since February, and it's nothing to do with any viruses.
Months earlier than the cold and flu season. I’ll be relieved if I’m wrong, but my gut reaction is we’re weeks off the second wave starting, which will peak in August if we behave well.
I don't want to sound cynical about this serious problem but viruses and common, even serious illnesses are always with us, and always will be. Most survive them, some don't. The world keeps turning, except in this case we seem to have got Superman to stop it spinning for the time being.
I’ve two operatives in the vulnerable group self isolating until the end of June as per NHS advice, one of them lives alone the other is married and his wife has caught it and brought it home. She’s had the symptoms of a mild cold and has spent her time self isolating out gardening. He’s had what he describes as a mild cold, two days of a mild fever now he feels fine. I’m thinking more and more that we should have isolated the vulnerable and just gone with social distancing etc instead of lockdown. Instead we’ve used a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, I read somewhere yesterday that the uk survival rate is just over 98.5%.

I know they're much smaller countries but 101 deaths from Covid 19 reported in Croatia and 173 in Greece. 1,356 in Portugal.
