we were going to Accrington on train on 17th but train strikes have scuppered any plans for getting back to Penistone.
They are on strike till new year on every Saturday , ballache for Saturday games but we should and need conductors on trains imo
I got home from Manchester the other week with no problems, East Midland trains to Sheffield who aren't on strike then dropped on a Northern to Barnsley who were running a limited service. It's a long way round from Accrington though.
Yeah last week a woman asked the conductor if he was striking tomorrow (last friday about last saturday) and he said he was happily giving up a 9.5 hours shift. Said whilst they are advertised until November 10th he couldn't see them finishing before christmas, so it was going to be a pain for christmas parties. Said the big bosses hate having to do their conducting job for them, but they are in no hurry to sort their own problem. Fully behind the conductors. Northern Rail trying to put people out of work. Get customers to buy on their platform before boarding or pick up a Promise To Pay ticket so all you need to pay on the train is the wage to your driver who's alone on the vehicle with no other member of staff to look out for them.
I agree if they are no Conductors on the train and there is an medical emergency with a passenger the driver isn’t going to stop his train and give assistance
The buses I am now catching are better anyway. Cheap and clean. Just full of fvcking freaks, particularly at night.
16 of us were goibg on train but that knackered our plans. Hired a mini bus that's cheaper and quicker anyway so worked out ok.
