Can anyone tell me how much a Day Rover ticket will cost? I've tried browsing the net but with no success. Ideally I need one for both the South & West Yorkshire lines, don't know if there is a difference in cost between the 2 lines or not. It's for a Saturday too, just in case that affects the price. Thanks in advance.
Don't think you can get one that covers both South and West Yorkshire. When I worked in Leeds I enquired about getting a monthly travel pass and was told I couldn't! - national rail service my arse! West Yorkshire - £3.80 (off peak) http://www.wymetro.com/PassesandSavings/PriceList.htm South Yorkshire - £4.50 (off peak) http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com...types/travel_south_yorkshire_tickets.html.htm Seems you can get South and West on buses but not on trains!
You can buy a West Yorkshire Day Rover from Barnsley station. How much travelling are you doing in South Yorkshire? I ask becausewhen I had to do a lot of travelling round West Yorkshire, I simplybought a return ticket to Darton (1st station covered by WYMetro) and a West Yorshire Day Rover. It was cheaper than a return ticket to Leeds.
It's another event we're running For the last few years we've run a train pub crawl. Starting off in the Courthouse & then getting a day return to Huddersfield sometime around 2pm. We've then got on & off at various stops along the way before having a couple in the Head of Steam. We then usually head off for food before having a few more in the Head of Steam & catching the last train back to Barnsley. One of our members & her boyfriend tried to do it as a dry run a couple of weeks ago but was told when she tried to get back on the train that she couldn't & was told about the day rover tickets. She was meant to be getting in touch with me about the costs but hasn't so far so I thought I'd try & find out for myself.
Hmm Thanks for that, looks like it'll cost double what we've paid in the past. Could be the end of the event that we're planning. Ah well, it was fun whilst it lasted.
RE: It's another event we're running Sounds a good idea....wouldn't most of the stations be in West Yorkshire? I picked up a leaflet for something like that a while back in The Gatehouse. There was a particularly attractive young lady in the group on Friday...shoulder length brunette hair I recall.
They claimed it was for research! I'm pleased they did though cos otherwise we'd have all been turning up on the day, none the wiser to the changes in ticketing regulations.
I know the one you mean Odds are she'll be on this trip too, if it comes off. Most of the pubs we do are in West Yorkshire so a Day Rover for West Yorkshire should take care of that but the problem would then be getting to West Yorkshire. (dunno)
RE: Only use the train once or twice a year you can, if your 'disabled' get a pass from the tracky people
Just found the leaflet "The Penistone Line Pub Trail" PDF here http://www.penline.demon.co.uk/pdf downloadables/Penistone leaflet.pdf Does say though that there isn't a day rover that covers West and South Yorkshire. You'd think they'd try to encourage stuff like this though and have a special Pub Trail ticket
It also says "Cheap Day returns are available on the line after 9.30. You may break your journey in both directions with these tickets." Not according to what I was told earlier this week you can't! As far as encouraging it goes, I agree with you but there's sure to be a few idiots who would find some way of ruining it for all concerned.
I didn't say I couldn't Simply that I don't think it's worth it for something that I'd only use twice a year at the most.
Read the original post Someone tried to do that the other week & was told that you can no longer get on & off at will with a day return!!
Anyone up for the Norwich away game? The Bar mag (Barnsley CAMRA) guide for away games mentions a pub in Norwich called the Fat Cat that has Adnams Broadside, Deuchars IPA, Fullers ESB, Taylor's Landlord, and over 15 changing guest ales! (raiseaglass) (pint)
