i managed to watch the reds train back in september and provided a report on here which seemed to go down quite well, i've broke up from work and today managed to watch the lads train again. my first report was very positive in regards of how the lads were set up to train in 2 touches passing environment and plenty of team spirit and banter amongst the lads and management, today was again good but very different. All the lads trained from what i could make out obviously apart from drinkwater who has gone back to manchester united, reuben noble lazurus was present and so was a very gay looking mceveley sporting a headband which keith constantly took the micky out of. The team started with the usual warm up of stretches and running then breaking up into groups carrying out keep the ball exercises. once the warm up had finished the team started a full on keep the ball excersise on the main pitch between the full squad split into 3 groups, keith kept urging the tempo to be increased and the acuracy of passes improved as he began to appear frustrated with what he was seeing. The team was then separted into equal sides on just over half of the pitch and encouraged by keith and flicker to take no more than two touches, the game proceeded and to be honest some of the play was quite sloppy vaz te looked totally out of sorts and just wanted to shoot at every opportunity instead of running or passing, lazarus looks very short on match fitness and sharpness, edwards, foster, mcnulty and hassel all looked very good as did jim o'brien. butterfield i'll talk about afterwards. As i say the play seemed sloppy and lack lustre apart from those i highlighted, keith called a halt to the session and proceeded to give the lads a right rollicking telling them " you seem to think you have made it, you seem to think you dont have to work, some of you seem like you dont want to train today well lads you should be conditioned now so theres no excuse! none at all get out there and f'king work hard and show me why you should be in my f'kin team. you all seem to be looking for the easy option coming short for the ball instead of running and pushing the oppositions defence, making them think about what you can do and taking them into area's of the pitch they dont want to f'king be. this is just training and you cant do it in f'king training today nevermind a proper match in a league that takes no prisoners. now i want you all to f'kin step it up, 2 touch passing, plenty of movement and closing down and people like you ricardo and you craig davies need to f'kin move more and make more runs without the ball now get out there the lot of you and show me" (that was word for word best as i can remember sorry if i missed anything) The team then seemed spurred on and training did sharpen up 100%, plenty of talking and banter from the lads who spurred eachother on. in my opinion mceveley looked like he was struggling for fitness as did lazarus. now i'll get on to butterfield for me he should have been one that keith singled out, in the training session he saw plenty of the ball but made no effort to try and make it two touch movement constantly turning into trouble as he does in games or trying a hollywood pass or a long range effort instead of a short pass to his team mates which caused them to look frustrated. at one point he took two players on and haynes screamed for it to be squared so he could basicaly tap it past preece to which butterfield replied to haynes "f'k off". Again i loved every minute of watching them train the banter and togetherness stands out quite well but not as much as the way keith and flicker coach them. keith contstantly offering advice and stopping place to give out instructions on how he wants things done. the stand out part was where he stopped them and gave them a rollicking the way i've typed it up wont come across as how emotional he put it to the lads and the response was excellent. Basically he wants more from them at one point he stopped them nd said " you've got us this f'kin far lads now take us to the next level"........ well keith i think thats what we all want but keep up the good work sorry if ive missed anything folks.
Good read that, thanks pal. The four defenders you mentioned as impressive, were they together as a back four? Hassell Foster Edwards McNulty
lazarus and clark i think possibly more, hard to make everyone out with all the bloody wooly hats they had on
ok, not been under hill. thats at top then isnt it near indoor centre. under davey and robins they used to train near bottom i think.
Hey DJB you wouldn't happen to know when the "half time draw, pound a go" is drawn and how much it is per ticket would you?
shows how clueless you are JT. Theres about 6 train pitches at oakwell. the bottom 2/3 you cant really get to and thwm who used to watch them train used to stand at gates where reserves/u18's play. They used to before that train at top where theres 2 pitches and you could get quite close. After that but before moving to bottom people used to stand on slope as davey stopped people standing near gates as some of them gave abuse to players on way to training pitch. Them pitches get used by U16's.
That just shows how clueless you are h/t. It was to stop the fans seeing what tactics were being practised and to stop them saying so on the internet forums, like this one. Davey was paranoid that someone was telling the opposition the formation and tactics he was going to use. He also said there was someone up at the metrodome with a telescope, lol. Nothing at all to do with your ballox as usual.
