Can anyone explain why Penistone to Huddersfield (South to West Yorkshire) is £5.50 while Denby Dale to Sheffield (West to South Yorkshire) is only £4.60? It's not distance as it's longer to Sheffield. Same train company, but it seems that West Yorkshire travellers get better prices than South Yorkshire for similar journeys.

I'm guessing it's because more of the journey is in West Yorkshire and prices are higher in West Yorkshire.

It's to do with government subsidies with the various bits of Yorkshire

South Yorkshire transport noddies subsidence more than West Yorkshire/ Kirklees.
