Everyday I have got up in the morning and looked on the official site to see if we've signed anybody, and just like everybody else I have been disappointed to see that we haven't. My next port of call is this BBS in the hope I will hear that we've signed the Romanian Peter Crouch, who is exactly like Crouchie except called Petr and on less money. After reading a load of rubbish about some player we should sign because he is good on football manager I then look on Mark Stokes' site to see if he has any info (after all, his website is the unofficial mouthpiece of the club that we have all wanted...but for some reason everybody hates him). However, I do not feel the need to rant and rave about the lack of transfer activity, moan in the style of bfcbub about davey's fingernails being too long to be a decent manager or any of the other crap. Why? A football club is a business, and if anyone remembers the previous January transfer window I went to sleep at the end of January wondering why we hadn't signed anyone only to wake up to the fantastic news we had signed Anderson, Macken and JCR. The reason you have to wait is because selling clubs will do all they can to hike up the price, knowing full well that they NEED to sell. We got JCR for a bargain thanks to Davey's patience last time, and i'm certain the Cryne will make sure Davey does wait...we haven't got money to just go throwing around! If you went shopping and saw a pair of jeans for £50 and decided you wanted them...but you knew in 10 days time there would be a sale that made them £25 what would you do? If you were rich you probably wouldn't give a toss and you'd buy them anyway...but we're not rich...so we wait. Be patient, let Davey keep his potential signings under his hat. The last thing we need is to alert other clubs to our finds. With a bit of luck I think we could find some more gems. And btw, whoever said Lee Clark has lots of contacts therefore is a good manager but Davey just knows a load of foreign agents and is a **** manager. What exactly is a contact? We have one of the best managers in our league in terms of the contacts he's developed worldwide, he went travelling around the world for 5 years to create links with clubs and agents. I would be disappointed if Muller, JCR or any of our better players left the club...but I wouldn't hate them and I wouldn't moan at Davey. We are able to bring in these excellent foreign players such as Muller and Colace by selling the club to them as a "stepping stone" to greater things. We're a shop window and if our players get spotted and sold we don't need to panic, because it just proves to other potentially good players that they can get to the Premier League through us, and we make a tidy profit in the meantime.
BARNSLEY FC completed the signing of Jamaican international winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce from Southend United ahead of the August deadline in 2007. The 24-year-old flyer started his professional career with Charlton and made five appearances at The Valley. He moved on loan to Leyton Orient in August 2002, clocking up 20 games for the Os in three months at Brisbane Road. Jamal was on the move again on loan in February 2004 when he spent a month at MK Dons, making four appearances. He was again sent out on loan the following August when he arrived at Chesterfield, where he made 16 appearances. His form at Saltergate caught the eye and he left the Valley in 2004, moving to Rotherham United and went of to impress again during 32 games for the Millers. He also spent time on loan at Southend United and Colchester United during his two years at Millmoor. He left the Millers for Southend in July 2006 and Jamal has gone on to shine as a Shrimper, playing a major part in the club's recent successes. He has clocked more than 50 games for the Roots Hall side. Jamal made his international debut for Jamaica in September 2003 when he came on from the bench against Australia. He has gone on to win seven caps for Jamaica, including playing the full 90 minutes against England in 2006. Jamal was a revelation on the wing for the Reds during 2007/2008, putting in a string of dazzling performances. He clocked up 42 games in all competitions, netting four goals, including memorable strikes against Southend, Southampton and Charlton. Reds Record (to end of 2007/2008 season) Appearances - 42 Goals - 4
well you get the bloody point. in the end you get the best bargains at the end of the transfer window. just look at what a lot of top manager have said recently. they are all saying the type of player they want just isn't available in january. the ones that are usually have reasons to be getting moved on. This is more than likely why we look abroad, because it is there closed season. Mark Hughes (endless amounts of money) and Harry Redknapp (enough money) have both said it recently. Jay, what is your take on the situation? I'm not having a go but as you've commented you make aswell throw in your two cents.
I think we need 2 or 3 players and we'll struggle without them However, I'm not worried yet as the transfer window still has over a week to go. I see no reason why we should hear of potential signings before the players signature is on the contract. Having said that, I was a bit worried when I heard that Davey was using this window for scouting players in Spain. In my opinion all potential targets should have been identified well before January and this month should be used to negotiate with clubs and players not as a starting point for identifying players.
Has it occured to anyone... ...that the player SD went to see in Spain had already been earmarked before the start of the window? And that he may have been going over to watch him personally before making a final decision?
Despite all the pedants banging on and on and on... nobody's pointed out it should be transfer not transer.
Yes, that had occurred to me And in my opinion it should have been done well before January so Simon would know if the player(s) was of the desired quality or if he should look elsewhere.
RE: Yes, that had occurred to me I don't know the exact timeline, but maybe : SD gets a call from one of his overseas buddies saying this player looks good SD gets a DVD of the bloke. SD sends someone, or goes himself to see him before the window. He's not sure, so makes him "Plan B" Jamie Ward deal falls through, so SD goes to check on "Plan B" Decides Plan B's club want too much, the player wants too much, or not to pursue the deal. I know there are a lot of assumptions in this, but everyone is assuming that SD is just plucking names out of the air. He will have a list of players we want, but he's not going to get all of them. Remember when John Walters came on loan? Everyone said "Who?" and why was he brought in. I remember Gudjon remarking "You don't know how far down the list we had to go" I'm as frustrated as everyone that we haven't landed players, but I see no reason to panic - yet. Let me know when its time to.
That's a cracking way to bring a new signing back down to earth... mention just how far down the list you had to go. "I was on the brink of hanging around local playing fields I was that desperate but thankfully nobody else wanted Terry so we thought he'll do. He has the same size feet as the striker we recently sold so we saved a bit on boots. Welcome to the club Terry!"
Comparison with 'Buying a pair of Jeans' Not like you said. If I wanted to buy a pair of jeans knowing that if I put their purchase off for a couple of weeks they would be cheaper. Look at the correct comparison. If I wanted a pair of Jeans and it was urgent because in a few days my arse would be showing, I would'nt wait two weeks, or if I waited two weeks they would be sold and my arse would still be showing. The morale of the story is, we need to buy as soon as possible to get some points on the board, and if we wait to sign a good Player somebody else will have snapped them up before the end of the transfer window. (doh) (doh) (doh)
the fact is in a few days davey's arse won't be showing. we haven't got a game on saturday so he's got some time to do his transfer dealings. we will be well aware if another club offers money for a player we are interested in because any selling club with any sense would tout the player to other interested parties. also, by signing a player there is no guarantee that we will get any more points on the board. as a comparison it isn't too bad, but you have got your negative face on and won't give davey a break.
But its showing now and you overlooked the fact that any decent striker worth buying will have gone before the deadline days.
