Two million for Billy Sharp is a poor investment if Norwich do pull it off. I had heard they were in for former player Jamie Cureton from Colchester. With Iwelumo gone to Charlton, that will leave Colchester minus fire-power next season unless they deal well. Have we got £400k anywhere? That's the fee touted for Alan Lee to Coventry and Kris Commons to Wolves. Lee is injury-prone, but both are good professionals, who do the business. Arjan de Zeeuw touted for a move to Leicester. If we are looking for a keeper to compete with Colgan - my favourite would be Stuart Taylor from Villa, but I suspect he is ok with a place on the Villa bench and staying on their wages. Lee Grant is available free from Derby, as is Michael Oakes from Wolves and Richard Wright from Everton. I think that Tony Warner from Fulham and Jamie Ashdown from Portsmouth would be available on loan, or for a small fee. Best loanee - Wayne Hennessey was awesome in the West Brom v Wolves play-off semi and did well at Stockport (record clean sheets) apart from the Rochdale debacle. Not many defenders going, but best of the freed players would be Danny Granville from Palace, or Craig Moore from Newcastle. Otherwise, good loanees would be Lewin Nyatanga from Derby, or Gary Cahill from Villa. Others worth a look, but possibly under contract (not sure until end of June) would be Michael Nelson from Hartlepool (top choice - big bruising centre back and ex-Bury connection, which we seem to like), Chris Coyne from Luton, Andy O'Brien from Portsmouth (what is going on with him? He obviously wants out and isn't getting games at Pompey), Peter Clarke from Southend now they are down (fee needed), John Halls from Reading, whom we tried to sign a while ago from Stoke. I would be fairly certain that we will be in for players who will strengthen the squad. The market is a bit thin at the moment with just a few players announced as contracts not being renewed. The balloon will really go up at the start of July when contracts end. The top signings are being courted now by interested clubs, but you can't believe much until business starts in earnest in July.
