doesn't it just push up wages and prices as the selling club/player is in a stronger bargaining position?

I think it is designed to help with promoting from Youth set ups.

Fair enough, the big teams have the ability to buy 2 world class players in every position - but we for example would have to promote a Youth player e.g Atkinson due to suspensions, injuries and poor form.

in my view, it should be illegal...

    Restriction on trade,

eg, you wouldn't be able to turn round to Kia/Rover/Ford etc and say, you can't buy and sell cars except for the period during january and in the summer months etc..

Can't beleive no one has challenged it yet misen

    Why would they

It is a restriction on a players trade, but the transfer window makes chairmen and managers nervous, so they flash the cash and the players benefit. So, why would any players want to end a cushy number like that.

    Totally agree

Posted something similar about a month back. I reckon it might come to a Bosman type situation when some hotshot lawyer challenges it.
Imagine someone like Freddie Eastwood gets injured on the eve of the window opening - he could claim his move to a bigger club was blocked (and his future earnings, and Southend could claim the missed out on income.

    the whole system is ridiculous:-
It was supposed to stop big clubs just buying anyone at anytime, but all it has achieved is the effect of totally inflating the market value of mediocre players, and a mad "supermarket Sweep" towards the end of the window. I'd scrap it.

    Restruction on trade

It could work the other way. If Barnsley had a team thats really good and there wasnt a transfer window, it means that clubs can tempt or players away at any point in the season. At least this way we could hold on the them till january. And if they were at the top of the league they may want to stay.

Its not the window thats the problem, it having a chairman thinks he can do everything on the cheap.

It's about stability of clubs, apparently. No one wants to see a system where you have a player moving clubs every month.

A player can only represent two clubs in a year anyway.
