The search for new players goes on. We know what we want but in these days of fantastic transfer fees, we cannot compete with the big clubs for "star" players, while it would be a waste of money to pay £2,000 to £3,000 for players who are probably no better than those on our books. I was just flicking through some old programmes - the above paragraph was written in the Barnsley vs West Ham programme on Christmas Eve 1949. Some things never change, eh.
