Not seen any names, but some reporters suggesting that we’re now looking abroad for a striker. Seems unlikely that we’ll be signing Joseph I reckon
Is that not including the players already brought in mate? I'd hope it is because we need a centre midfielder, possibly two. A left back and another forward. I'd like to see us get rid of a few more too if they aren't going to play.
Don’t disagree. But the last two windows have ended with the message “we’re looking at the free transfer market”, wouldn’t rule it out again.
I thought a cardboard cut art ad' more goal threat than Matty James. I'd have him back in a heart beat because when we do win it back we don't keep it. At least James brought in some thought process. Cool head needed. Wednesday we drew because we didn't stop the constant barrage of Cardiff attacks. A bit of cuteness would have sufficed.
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. He was talking about a striker, and there were multiple (three) targets. He wasn’t talking about multiple players for multiple positions.
It’s been a really difficult window for everyone. I read yesterday that only 4 permanent deals had been done in the Premier League.
I think we ought to have a realistic view of the situation at the moment , the pandemic situation restricts the movement of players as well as the severe financial implications it brings to EFL clubs , we are a club on a small budget trying to swim in a big pond & it is not easy but with some shrewd business we have managed to get a squad which is capable of a mid table finish which would be fantastic , if fans think we are going to bring in multiple players & risk the financial state of the club at this stage of the season then they are mistaken , why do it ? Its not worth it , we want to be in a position to be able to hopefully compete & progress again next season .
Brexit as well has an impact with the new legislation for players coming from overseas, this being the first window since. A lot of uncertainty for players and clubs to consider.
I am not so sure Brexit has any impact on the current window as players are still moving between the UK & Europe , i.e Christie left us yesterday to go to Belgium , I think , but quarantine , flight restrictions & lockdowns do not help but the main key is simply finances .
I think that there may still be some mileage in the Kyle Joseph link and think that the board should play brinkmanship right up to the deadline, if, as looks likely, we really have scouted Kyle and see him as number one target. Given that there is so little cash around; given Wigan's financial situation; given that they have just been thumped at home again 0-5; given that we may have revised our offer to around £500k up front for a player who only has just over a dozen starts so far - you would think that it would be good business for them. Joseph will be a League Two player next season by the look of it. Hardly going to enhance his value. Keep pestering them up to the deadline and I reckon we could still do it. I still think that the Baah guy from Rochdale is as good a bet, though.
To be fair, the most vocal person about needing another forward in has been the coach. I think if we’d signed Morris, Kitching and kept hold of either Thomas or Bramall, most would’ve seen that as a reasonable enough window. I would have anyway. But I agree, we shouldn’t be taking many risks, for example, paying too much up front for Joseph. And what we need to aim for now is 3 or 4 successive ‘decent’ transfer windows. Question is can we keep enough of our key players for that long?
Right now it’s difficult to quantify if we have actually strengthened our squad at all. It’s difficult to look at bringing anyone off our bench to change a game and Morris & Kitching are still yet to have any serious time or any time in Kitchings case. So jury still out on those - think we definitely need to make at least 2 more signings.
R Rules changed for players coming here, works on a points system now. Going to Europe nothing has changed
