Me and the wife are due to go to Liverpool for 3 days from a week on Monday. We had hoped to go for a proper holiday this year but with her being pregnant and now having had COVID and Pneumonia we just want to get away for a few days before the birth in December. We chose Liverpool during the week so it’s somewhere quiet where we could get a central hotel with plenty of easy things to do close by as she can’t walk very far at all at the minute. It was far from our first choice but a few days mooching around cafes and museums will do us both good. We’ve seen Liverpool is going into ‘lockdown’ on Tuesday so it will presumably still be in place next week when we go, but does anyone know if there’s anything to stop us going? I expect cafes etc will be open but limited to table service and shorter opening hours which is fine by us but we can’t seem to find much more information on what we can and can’t do, especially as non-natives so to speak. Cheers for any info.
I'd book reservations at all places you want to eat, and tickets places to visit you can always get money back if cancelled. Liverpool's a place great just to walk around, love the place. It stops spontaneity but at least you'll have stuff booked. We did the same the other week on North Yorkshire coast. Also check out reviews of places to see how good the Covid measures are.
My daughter's planning to go back on Friday. I think restaurants will be open as usual, just will close at 10 pm. Museums open Wednesday to Sunday but need to book those.
Thanks, we may miss the museums then if they’re not open Monday and Tuesday but will see what’s open and get some stuff booked.
There's a lovely restaurant with panoramic views, treat your other half with lunch there. Browny points galore.
Even if the museums are shut it is still worth a walk around the waterfront , not sure if the Tate gallery is shut but if that is open then thats worth a look , anyway I am sure you will enjoy your visit .
I'd never visited Liverpool until I was in my forties and wasn't expecting much at all. I was totally surprised by how nice it is and how many fabulous buildings it has. Well worth a visit.
If you like Indian food get yourself here https://www.mowglistreetfood.com/ There's two restaurants in Liverpool
Its a great place to visit - I was a student there in the early 80's but hadnt really been back ( except for a couple of football matches) until a couple of years ago when I had a weekend there and it had improved beyond all recognition - it was always good but now the waterfront (which wasnt) is a really great place to visit. Hope Wellsie gets to go with no problems. We are supposed to be going to Sedbugh for a few days starting next week as well for some walking in the Howgills and surrounding area - hoping we have no problems to go either
If you want something a little different outside Liverpool, try "Another Place" - an Anthony Gormley installation with about 100 statues of the sculpture staring out to sea. Its at Crosby beach, so about 7miles north of central Liverpool up the A565. Formby Beach is a little further north and also a nice place for a bit of fresh air. Last time I looked though they were trying to dissuade visitors - not sure if that has changed or not.
