I can't remember the last time I've seen such incompetence from a match official.
He's certainly close to being on par with Mr. Rennie after that performance.

According to Simon Davey Trevor Kettle first told him it was for holding, then said he'd given it for handball. After seeing some of the manhandling Stoke City were getting away with throughout the match, I didn't see anything untoward that hadn't gone unpunished before. I'm not saying a penalty shouldn't have been awarded, I just couldn't see why it was given.
i knew it was nailed on for a penalty as soon as he gave the free kicj for that diving cheating lovely person fuller.at it all the game and got away with it all.as someone else has said, fecking speechless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His record speaks for itself This season he's reffed only 23 games and dished out 104 cards and it's not just a bad season or a dirty league either, when he was reffing the conference he had 10 games and gave out 47 cards. The sooner the world is rid of him the better
According to the Stoke City official site It was for handball against Lewin Nyatanga in the 98th minute. In other words, to answer your question John, no one knows for definite why it was given.
