Called into the Barnsley Building Society in town. Asked if I could open two new accounts - one for each child. Was told that there wasn't a member of staff who could deal with it & "as I wanted to open 2 not one accounts, I'd need to make an appointment". I explained I didn't live in Barnsley, and it wasn't simple for me to make an appointment, but had all the documentation etc etc, but got nowhere. The staff were pleasant enough, just didn't have the ability to take details & open an account! I was the only customer at the time too. (doh)
Why didn't you open one account? Then sneak back in disguise later and open the other one? Seriously, why anyone would want to open an account with them is beyond me. Pathetic interest rates, no internet access, antiquated customer service practices (like the one you describe). If you want to donate to the club, open a proper account with a proper interest rate, then just write a cheque to the club every now and again.
They didn't have a member of staff to deal with opening one account! Not sure how intensive the training must be for such a difficult task. Anyway, I was opening an account to take advantage of the "free shirt" offer. No Wednesday fan can argue with the free shirt offer. They can laugh at the fact it's not available unless you make an appointment with a very specially trained member of staff.
That account is 5.5% down... ...on what you could get if you shopped around. And I'm not kidding. With the extra interest your kids will be able to guy a shirt each and still have enough for an introductory Korma at the DR.
Hee hee Well spotted, bet you enjoyed that I am impressed that you waited until it was too late to edit. And I like "Schwanzy". If I ever get banned I'll come back as that.
Ok show me ... where I can put £70 into an account; get 2 kids Reds shirts; and after 6 months have at least £70 to spend. That's the kind of interest I'd like. Oh, and I need to be able to justify to him indoors that the shirts came "free" (just so there's nowt to argue about.)!
