Well you a policeman and seen it for your own eyes. That leaves it to you to say something to your superiors

Its upto the police to keep it all in order. After witnessing the "organisation" on Saturday my faith of SY police is still rock bottom

    doddy,

lets look at it this way no matter what i say atwork people will nt listen i am a pc not the chief constable.

however no matter what the police do they wil always be wrong in people's eyes. beleve me it is not easy stopping the troublecausers for example against cardiff initially there were about 200 fans fighting and 27 bobbies there to sort it you do the maths, plus we have to be lawful and proportonate inthe se of force, the trouble causers dont.

The blame for trouble lies solely at the door of the idiots that cause it

I'm not just saying this to stick up for the Police. Why should people who want to attend a game of football have to think about being assaulted/abused.

I agree, although the policing at football leaves a lot to be desired

Over a dozen officials to remove two youngsters from the ponty end yet as we have been told numerous times in the past when adults have been involved, it is better not to go in. Also I was told that police dont get involved, well they did with children.

Red&whitetyke is right that it is the people making the decisions that are idiots but how many chances should one team get? The higher police should be reporting sheffield united to the FA and expressing concerns for public safety based on the number of times that they have caused trouble.

Also why do we insist on having both sets of fans converge at the trainstation? Surely there is another way to take the away fans to the station rather than with the home fans

There used to be full Police escorts to and from the main train stations not so long ago, it worked well then, so why the Police don't do this now is baffling to say the least.

Re: Trouble is not the police's fault............its the fault of Network Rail

Someone is going to get killed at the level crossing after a match when the barriers come down
Either by the confrontation it causes between fans
    OR
By jumping over the barriers to get away from the trouble

I've written to the police about it and they understand the problems, but they cannot insist that trains are held up for 10 to 15 minutes to clear the crowd

But when someone gets killed.............then someone will do something about it

RE: The blame for trouble lies solely at the door of the idiots that cause it

Cos when you get thrown into a gang of 50 Leicester "gang" walking down from Harborough Hills under the flyover by one of the police while wearing a barnsley shirt and so you're safety is in danger via the police. And then when we escape in fear of your safety all you say, not shout kick off or owt, that you want that Policemans number you then get another PC running round a riot van to drag you round it and pin you up against it shouting and swearing at you when you done absolutley nothing wrong, all confidence you had in the police is gone. If that had happened on Saturday im sorry but it would probably be me in hospital.

Don't worry though, i have had dealings with Superintendent David Hartley about this and he has rules in place and i have to keep a look to make sure that they are being followed. Lets say that already some have been broken, especially ALL officers to have numbers showing. Ahem.....no no naughty PC officers you!!!

    Just an idea:
If it's a team known for potential trouble by the Football Intelligence, fans should be told that they may face a lock in after a game of 10-15 minutes til the homes fans have cleared. It did use to happen at local Derbys and it's something i have experienced several years ago as a Barnsley fan. It's annoying and unfair to the innocents but it may be a better way for the police to control events

There is a simple solution Nudger

Only away supporters with a train/bus ticket bought in advance should be allowed to leave the stadium and head in the direction of the interchange and they should be accompanied by police. The barrier should not be an issue as away fans can safely by taken through the station itself and over the bridge if needed.

doesnt even need to be a total lock-in really

fans going to their cars/busses parked in the official carpark could be allowed to leave as home fans dont go there, anybody else who has chosen to park somewhere else or to have bought a ticket for the station could be held back for a few minutes and the people using public transport could quite easily be escorted there
