Looking forward to tuesday. My closest game, I'll cycle to the match. For anyone going, I'd recommend the Great Northern, 5 minutes walk from the ground (just over the railway bridge at the island near the ground). The beer is excellent (Burton Bridge Brewery) and football supporter friendly, always been a good atmosphere there before and after the games. Also, one of the 2 bridges over the Trent is closed for repairs at the moment and traffic is a nightmare in the town, so I'd get there early and go via Derby on the A38 not the A42 via Ashby or M1 via Coalville.
Can't wait. Its a fairly local (50 mins) one for me too. 20 quid for the terrace so hopefully have a good following there in what I imagine will be a 6 pointer come the end of the season.
We're bringing the flag down but I don't think there'll be anywhere to put it. Maybe you could tie it to the back of your bike and cycle round the pitch with it?
Be able to put flag out. Either over seats that ain't used in the old giffer section or in corner of standing bit.
It's a very small ground mate, the standing areas are not really deep enough for the flag except maybe in the home end and I don't think they'd appreciate that. The seated side of the ground will probably be too full.
I know how big it is. Ive been twice. However this time it wont sell out as its a tuesday night. Be busy but there will be space for a flag or two. And great northerns out the way a bit for me.
Usually look forward to burton away , as the pubs are decent and it’s not bad to get to . On night shift though so will have to listen to commentary
Don't think so mate. Try the Mill House on the canal about half a mile north-east of the ground (Milford Drive, Stretton DE13 0LA, just off the A5121), it's a Hungry Horse chain pub but they will have at least one real ale and Green King IPA (semi-real beer). By the way, I just looked on Google Maps and the Great Northern is not where it shows it. It's actually the site of The Wetmore Whistle which is sadly closed down (used to be good for bands and great beer). The Great Northern is shown by a black oval on the attached image and can be reached via some steps from Hawkins Lane.
Thanks very much for that. I'll be taking my mate who is registered blind and parking at the ground, so will see what he wants to do. Never noticed when I've been before, do Burton have a social club?
It has a small ale house cum club in away end but thats upto the old bill if its open. Decent place in the town centre i can recommend but its a trek from ground.
For fodder... Www.thecrossingburton.co.uk Fairly reasonable. In town centre but easy enough to drop on A round to get to the ground.
Lots of decent pubs in Burton, The Alfred (small traditional drinking house) is the next closest after the Great Northern, A bit further afield is my favourite, The Cooper's Tavern - close to the station if you're going by train, also close to the station, The Devonshire Arms and The Roebuck. Near the old Trent Bridge is The Burton Bridge (pub and brewery). I might call in for a half in The Cooper's on my way....
