1. Goal wasn't Wiseman's fault - poor pass led to Golbourne being caught out, McNulty pushed over to cover, Wiseman naturally pushed over to narrow the gap between him and McNulty which, with Crainie still struggling to back, left space for Davies. It was a well taken opportunity from a sloppy pass rather than bad defending. 2. A young lad and his Dad came into work today, the young en plays for Sheffield United Academy and they were both waxing lyrical about one of our lads called Talent - they assured me they weren't taking the piss. Anyone know anything about him? I've tried looking myself but got too pissed off with our website.
Point 1: excellent observation Point 2: me no nothing Back to point 1, you will now get shot to pieces regarding your 'on wisemans side' cimment
Not fussed. He's made mistakes this season, not blinkered so much to deny that, but we should want him to make those mistakes if he's going to learn from them. He's making errors that can be taught out of him and has all the attributes to become a good, championship-standard centre half. That's why I'm happy for Keith to persevere with him. People just need to show a bit more cojones sometimes and give players time.
Naturally? whats natural about leaving an opposition player on his own in the middle of the area? if he had stayed with his man it meant the Bolton player had no easy outlet, by moving he gave him an obvious easy target. He should have stayed with his man until the Bolton man got through at that stage anything could have happened.
Sorry should have clarified what I meant by naturally. You're told from day one as a centre half that you have to play as a pair, and specifically that you don't let a large gap appear between you both. So when McNulty pushed over Wiseman would have 'naturally' gone over with him. Very difficult situation to try and defend against but that's the danger you have if you're going play a system that requires both full backs to push on to create width.
Also why I liked Craine playing the DM role because he read those situations and almost sat in to be a third centre back at times.
well I was a centre half for years and granted the situation shouldn't have happened because there should have been more cover, but my choice would have been to at least give my mate chance to clear the problem up by either getting a tackle in or pushing his opponent wide, I certainly wouldn't have abandoned an attacker in the middle of the penalty area and let myself be caught in no mans land where I couldn't get to the ball or be in a position to block it. As I say if he had to leave his man to go to a player under no pressure thats just got to be done but by doing what he did IMHO he just left the door wide open by pre emting something that may not have happened. Not having a go at you by the way just giving a differing view, its all about opinions after all.
Of course, mate. Debate and discussion is the best way of refining your point. An art-form that's killed by the people who immediately expect their opinion to be respected or the mentality of 'it's my opinion and that's that - I won't be budged' In hindsight you're right; he shouldn't have left his man, but given the pace of the move and the fact Davies was behind him I think it's a little harsh to lay the blame on Wiseman rather than the sloppy pass. You see even top players get caught out in similar circumstances. I did once have a trial, albeit an unsuccessful one, for us when I was younger so it's completely possible I was given crap advice!
Talent i think comes from Africa. It was on Looknorth about 5 years ago Rotherham_red. I was wondering if he was still with club. Good to hear. Wonder what age he is?
They weren't sure how old he was but they guessed 15-16. Said he's all about flair and pace but has a proper footballing brain to go with it.
Just done a google, his names Talent Ndlovu, comes from Zimbabwe but lives in Bradford. Signed in September 08 with some reports saying he was 11, some saying he was 12. Can't find any thing about him since then though, except a report on his schools website in 2011 saying he was at the academy.
