Don’t expect anybody to have an answer, but you never know. 1) What happened to Spanish flu? There was no vaccine and it was the deadliest pandemic in recent human history. Did it just burn itself out. 2) Why are there no new cases in China? Has it already burnt itself out over there, or I’d there another reason?
There have been new cases in China. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...w-coronavirus-outbreaks-spark-unease-in-china
By the summer of 1919, the flu pandemic came to an end, as those that were infected either died or developed immunity. Almost 90 years later, in 2008, researchers announced they’d discovered what made the 1918 flu so deadly: A group of three genes enabled the virus to weaken a victim’s bronchial tubes and lungs and clear the way for bacterial pneumonia
People gained herd immunity so yes it ran out of people to infect and yes burnt itself out essentially
1. Spanish flu was thought not to have originated in Spain but in the USA; Oregon. It basiclly ran it's course but they did bring in ban on crowd gatherings, social distancing and masks. You could have been fined $5 for not wearing a mask, quite a hefty sum, it was classified as disturbing the peace. 2. There are new cases in China, mostly from returning citizens from abroad.
In reference to 1. Trump ( when asked by the press) will announce the Spanish created the flu. When in fact it is documented to believe to have started in New York. In reference to 2. Trump will say, " now there are new cases in China. It's their fault that we can't get it under control. We are doing our utmost but those Chinese are determined to undermine our strategy"
By the he time it had run it's course it had killed over 50,000,000 people. That is more than the population of the UK at that time.
Interesting that spanish flu had a high mortality rate in the 20-30 age group and attacked strong immune systems.
I agree, I just CANNOT believe e-red didn’t expect anyone to have the answer!! This is my ‘go to’ source for information
Pretty sure I'll get better answers than off THE BIG QUESTIONS. ( With Nicky Campbell) I was no wiser after that episode.
Socially things didn’t get back to normal until 1921/2 , two years after the main pandemic which led to what’s referred the forgotten depression
Some historians now believe the Spanish Flu originated in China. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/...u-1918-china-origins-pandemic-science-health/
