Two things puzzled me on Saturday

Now the dust has settled and I'm coming down to earth a bit

    1) Why did we have a minute's silence for Derek Dooley?

I observed the minutes silence by the way and showed my respect but what has he done to warrant it? Was he a bigwig at the FA? Did he play for England? I only know him as a former fowl who's career was ended early by a broken leg who then went across the city to do some sort of a job at the Lane. Some of the young uns round me hadn't the faintest clue who he was. I'm all for showing respect to former Barnsley players/officials/fans and any other big names in football but was he really that?

    2) Butterfield on the bench

Nothing against Butterfield -it must have been a great day out for the young lad and ample reward for the form shown in the reserves but he was never going to get on the pitch was he. Why are we so against having a keeper on the bench? Butterfield was a waste of a sub in my opinion and Davey just has to have a reserve keeper there for the semi. We've already had a goalie injured this season and it could quite easily happen again, or even one sent off. With 5 subs available it should be bloody automatic that one of them is a goalkeeper.

    Derek Dooley - WTF

This minutes silence thing went too far.

He meant nothing to me or really any other Barnsley fan.

OK so he was a nice bloke. So was my Grandad but they didn't have a minutes silence for him - or any of thousands of nice blokes who were season ticket holders at the well (except that one bloke who had had a ST for 100 years and I reckon they only did that because a former player had also died the same week).

Getting very tired with it all now.

The minutes silence is meant to be special - so lets keep it for people who are special to either one of the clubs in question or the national game.

    1) No idea

    2) Maybe Butterfield is that close to the 1st team now. I was watching him warming up at half time and his touch is top notch. He has got to break through sometime. I think the GK argument is one that can run and run, and some managers see it differently. What % of games do the sub GK get used? Very small. Better to have different options for your outfield players.

    Can't win can we!

Complain when we don't give the academy lads a chance and complain when we do! There were 5 subs and we can only use three ... little chance he would have got on anyway. Good for him to experience that kind of atmosphere
