The UKs government have been grossly negligent in my opinion in knowing about the referendum for a LONG time but waiting until days before the vote to suddenly start making promises about what would happen if there was a no vote. These policies and promises should have been set in stone a long time ago, you cant just start panicking and over promising things half arsed in the days running up to the vote when it isnt going your way. And the yes campaign has been ignoring issues and saying that theyll sort if out after they win. You simply cant do that with the hugely important things theyre talking about things like armed forces, what the scottish people will have to pay for things, what currency theyd use etc. They are vitally important issues that should have been set in stone BEFORE the vote commences. I think that if yes wins then the scottish people will have a rude awakening when salmonds promises dont materialise and when they realise that the issues they havent finalised end up costing far more than they realise. However I think that if a no vote wins then it will be a disaster for us in the UK as the incompetent government has panicked and promised the world to scotland if they stay meaning that yet more money goes there way, the scots get even more benefits that we dont get and we end up footing the bill. Ironically I think that yes will be better for the english and wels and no will be better for the scots. The opposite of what everyone is actually campaigning for. Personally my heart says I want a no vote however the panicked promises of the tories means that my head says no will cripple the english
Re: Two things that have annoyed me about the scottish vote and why I think yes will The yes vote will not win, I am very confident of that. The reason that the no vote will - The Barnett formula.
Re: Two things that have annoyed me about the scottish vote and why I think yes will Devo max was offered 2 years ago I believe and put on hold pending the referendum. The position the no camp has found it's self in with cross party alliances up against a strong nationalist party has been the problem The scots would do well to remember it's not a vote on how much you don't like England. Whatever England may mean to them
Two things that have annoyed me about the scottish vote and why I think yes w... I think Salmond wanted it on the ballot and Call Me Dave said no. Hence babbing himself now...
Problem being that if the yes vote wins, all the Scottish mp's currently sitting in Westminster are lost. The Tories have little support in scotland, one mp, so their minority coalition government would become a majority. And the middle english heartlands they hold will likely remain in future ballots - if the scots leave the uk, I can only envisage a Tory uk government ever being in power, labours strongholds are more working class, so round here and the north generally. Even with attritional losses and gains I can't see labour getting a majority, Tory minority or majority governments for the foreseeable. No wonder labour are desperate to keep Scotland british. They at current levels in Scotland would lose 40 MPs if Scotland left the uk. A total of 59 less MPs, but only one loss for the Tories, 40 for labour, 11 lib dems, 7 others, mostly SNP. The Tories would have over 300 seats still - out of a total of 591. And lib dem support is dwindling, labour barely gaining support under red ed, ukip might do ok but would only ever get in to bed with the Tories. So be careful what you wish for...
