What exactly does Oakwell 1575AM do on Barnsley World now for away games? Is it just match commentry or do you do a build up from say 1 o'clock like you do for home games? Cheers.
Hiya mate, We try and do build up as much as we can but we restricted by the use of the ISDN line at the away ground. We can only 'dial in' to the PTV system when the press and media co-ordinator at the stadium says we are good to go. Southampton shouldn't be a problem and we should be able to get on the internet from at least 2 o'clock.
Cheers, Andy. I may subscribe to Barnsley World then. For home games we eat our lunch in the car and listen to you - builds the game up perfectly! If the same is now available for away games I can take the lap top with us and get you on that. Would be useful to have Barnsley World anyway for the highlights, interviews, etc.
I'd definitely recommend Barnsley World these days
You get full video coverage of the pre-match press conferences, post match interviews, player interview, highlights and ofcourse the commentary.
200% better than last year.

RE: I'd definitely recommend Barnsley World these days Think I'll go for it then. Have always held off in the past as there were lots of bad reports and as we go to all the games I thought it would be of limited use. Sounds like it's time to invest though!
do they offer any kind of support yet though? Are their offices still closed on saturdays (meaning if you have a problem then tough)
before you sign up, i'd check peoples posts at around 5 past 3 every saturday There are posts EVERY week by people who can't get any commentary at all and who simply cant use the service an it's not always the same people.
I would second that After the 1st game teething trouble its been very good this season. i have never had any trouble getting on or hearing audio My one complaint would be why is the audio at away games always better than at home games? At home games its sounds like a poor am broadcast with interference at times, but for away games its generally crystal clear
RE: I would second that To answer your question;
At home games we have to rely on using radio transmission to send the signal from the press box in the West Stand to our studio in the East Stand. Reveivers are located in the East Stand and then the signal is fed to the studio where it is then sent to the internet and to the main transmitter. Using this system does degrade the quality somewhat.
At away games we dial directly to PTV using an ISDN broadcast line. This means that there is no degradation whatsoever as the signal is hard wired straight to PTV.
Motions are in place to install equipment in our studio so that we can eliminate the use of radio transmission equipment and operate a direct dial system as at away games.
This is something that I have been suggesting for the last couple of seasons but it's only now that we are able to act on it. Hope fully this will be in place within the next couple of months. That may sound quite a long time but it is specialist equipment and has to be installed by experts. Not to mention the fact that the cost of such doesn't come cheap.
That may all sound a little technical but I hope it makes sense.
Andy
